Ballpython or collobion red tale boa They’re both tame, but the Columbian Red Tail Boa is known to be more easier to hold, and seem to actually enjoy being held. A ball python would rather be left in it’s hide all safe and warm. You can handle them both easily, but yeah, an RTB is probably more "fun" to handle. But, ball pythons are smaller and easier to handle, as in housing them. Red tail boa’s can easily grow to 10 feet, and be large enough to eat rabbits, which can be a hassle to obtain every 10-14 days for feeding. For a first time keeper, out of those, I’d say ball python would be best.

Ballpython or collobion red tale boa I agree with Pelota’s last line that a Ball is a better first time snake than a Red Tail if for no other reason the Red Tail gets much larger and can be a real handful especially for a small person. Having said that, i recommend a corn snake for a first time snake.

Ballpython or collobion red tale boa Well, for #1.) How old are you, are you going to be able to handle the Redtail Boa when it gets big?I’m 11, and I have both. Redtail Boas are more "fun" to handle, because you could hit them in the head, and they wouldn’t budge (I advise you not to try, just so your snake doesn’t have brain damage) Just last night I was holding mosi, and I accedntly elbowed him, and he didn’t even move. So yea, they are more "fun" to handle, because you can touch them anywhere, they almost seem to enjoy it. The reason ball Pythons aren’t as fun to hold as RTB’s, is because most of them are head shy, and if you touch their head they jerk it back, and that scares you, but they won’t bite, they just jerk it back. I think ball Pythons are "cuter" becase of their cute little shaped face. If you get a male RTB, I don’t see why it wouldn’t be a good snake. They are both great snakes, and they are both docile. They are both a joy to keep, and handle. SCSnakeman, he already has a corn, remember? He fed it an anole. P.S. If you get either of these snakes, PLEASE ONLY feed them mice, rats and rabbits. NO LIZARDS OR BIRDS!

Ballpython or collobion red tale boa No. If you get a male, no. And besides, as it grows, you will too. So by the time its 8ft, you’ll be fully grown.

Ballpython or collobion red tale boa No, but my mom has, she said it hurt like crap. But it wasn’t a defensive strike (they hurt less). She was dropping the rat in and it missed and got her hand. So it hurts more when its a feeding strike.

Ballpython or collobion red tale boa There are more than one type of "red tail" boa. there are the columbians, which can get up to 10 ft, but average 8 ft for female, and 6 ft for male. Then there are the smaller boas, like the hogg island, caulker cays, and nicaraguan boas. They are all just locale specific red tails. As far as the comment about the snake not being full grown until the original poster is full grown, that is wrong. Boas do most of their growing in the first year. By the end of the second year, they will be clost to full adult size. Take a female columbian red tial for example. You could be dealing with a 6-7 ft snake within 2 years. That would mean an 11 year old would have to deal with a large snake. Far from being "full grown" as you stated.
