 Getting a ball,my first snake!!!!!!yah

ok,at first i was dead set on a corn, but i went to the petstore because they were having a huge opening sale (the place was packed!) and i asked a lady about corn snakes.she let me handle a adult and i diddnt like it at all.she said i should try out a red tailed boa that was about the size of a ball python, maybe five-five and a half feet long, and i cinda liked it.she said "if you liked that one your gonna love the burm"and she got out this eight, ten foot burmese python of its cage and onto my shoulders,i mean im thirteen.although im 5’8, 140lbs.,and can lift about a hundred twenty pounds.i fell in love with that snake and all the other people in the store kinda backed away from the area, loll.it was so strong,it was wrapped around my arm with its tail, its lower middle body around my waist, top half of its body around my neck, but it wasn’t trying to constrict me or anything, there was just a lot of little kids shouting"mommy, mommy, look at the kid with the snake!".i cant house a Burmese or red tail at the moment,so i am gonna get a ball python,i am gonna get a baby, hopefully so we have some time to build an enclosure for it when it is bigger.i am going to get a female because they get larger than males, and i would like a larger snake.after the ball, and i get a job next year,i may even get a woma python (desert snake, six, eight feet long, very beautiful snake).so yeah,it is gonna be pretty cool,im not sho=ure if im gonna get a morph or not, depends on prices

Hehe good to hear that you re getting a ball as your first snake. Trust me, they are alot easier then burms. Or atleast eat less.... Seeing that you re 13, a ball is a good snake for you. My burm out grew my ball so fast...it grew 4 feet in 7 months lol. Post pics soon!

BPs are way better that burms and reticts and that such believe me i got buck at 10 when he was 6 months. he was
/ /
that long when i got him and now at 5 almost7/12 years old he’s longer than my arm, which means about 3ft but reticts and burms can be nasty bps are pretty mellow
(what i love most about bps is they have favorites )

So many reasons to hate pet stores... some fool trying to push a burm on a 13 year old.

If I had any energy I would be seething right now.

Walk away from that store. Buy from a breeder and get a snake that is suited to you and one that is going to be healhty and well-started.

Seriously.

Bruce

I got my baby boy (Sebastian) from PetsMart. No problems....but then again I don’t know any breeders that sell snakes for cheap. But yeah you don’t want a Burm. I used to have Bertha (so original, I know) and she was a handful and a half. She roamed everywhere and was extremely hefty until it got to the point that I couldn’t take it anymore. Feeding her was too difficult and I knew I wouldn’t be able to take care of her anymore, so I sold her to a collector with this huuuuge glass enclosure (he reminded me of Uncle Monty in the "Series of Unfortunate Events" movie/books. I know she’s much happier now though :).

Yes Burms aren’t for everyone, but I have a male Albino about 10 months old and 5ft. He is very sweet and well mannered. It all depends on the owner and their personal preference as to what type of snake to get.

And to say Burms and Retics can get nasty is a bit of an ignorant comment, any wild animal can get nasty depending on the owner and the conditions it’s raised in.

I am glad to see you decided on a Ball to start, but maybe in 5 yrs or so you may want something bigger. All I can say is educate yourself on the species you want BEFORE buying it.

Gavin.

 Getting a ball,my first snake!!!!!!yah

Hello all,

This is Jimi’s dad. I just wanted to point out that the pet store was not pushing the burm on us. I am an experienced snake owner. I had to get rid of my snakes years ago, when I started my family. Jimi has shown interest and is old enough to care for a snake, with supervision, so we decided to get one. The pet store is local and the staff is very knowledgeable, they wouldn’t push a burm on a 13 year old. Jimi was nervous of the size of a ball, so I brought him to the store to see if they would let him handle some of the bigger snakes. They were actually very helpful, even though I told them that we would be going to a local breeder to purchase the snake.

We did pick up a beautiful normal female ball python at the local expo last week. She is about 18" and just ate her first meal last night at her new home.

Here she is. Her name is Cloe

Hey good to hear and nice snake.
Maybe you can get him a burm in a few years? Personally I dont think burms are nasty or any meaner then any other snakes. Or atleast not as mean as my new green try :(
After a month of settling in, they are alright and I havent been bitten by her since the first day I took her out of her bag....
Goodluck with Cloe!

"thats cool, I like the berm"s too, but I also dont have the room to house one, they will eventually need their own room in your house, they get pretty big. But I bet you are happy you got to hold one. I did a long time ago, I remember it like it was yesterday because it was the biggest snake I ever had the pleasure of holding. Very cool. Good luck on getting your Ball Python..."
