 OT-White head?!

While cleaning today, I noticed Marley had washed out pigment around his nose, mouth and eyes. To be honest it is kind of freaking me out... I don’t know whether it’s contagious, harmful, just a stain or what, but I have flipped through my snake books and can’t find anything on it.

Sorry the pics are blurry as crap... I was in a rush and didn’t really want to handle him because he just ate 9/29. I hope you guys can still get the gist of it though.

Also, I don’t know if it’s just me, but his eyes seemed a little lighter also.

Anyone have any ideas?

Its hard to tell, it kinda looks like either a stain or possible rub nose. Try calling your vet and see what he/she says.

Well I thought it might have been nose rub too, but knowing Marley, well he is just not an active snake. Being the night owl I am, he is doesn’t really lurk around much in his tub. And I know his tub is big enough for him... I probably will call the vet if this doesn’t clear up in a few days.

My guess would either be nose rub or... is it possible the snake just crawed through her urate hence the white stain? Does it wipe off? if so, I bet it was just a urate stain.

Nose rub would have the scales be bumped up a smidge ( tho it may not be so noticeable if it just started) My rat snake developed some nose rub, and it was bumped up and a little brown. The problem was solved by giving the rat snake a bigger cage that was more height ( at the time, i was using a 32 qt tub i had used for a bp) it went away shortly after. Do you think you are housing her in too small of a tub/cage? Do you see her pushing a lot against the tub? My rat snake did, so I gave upping the tub size a shot and made sense since colubrids are more active...

The photo’s are a bit hard to see, but if this was my snake, I would wipe his head off with a damp towel and see if the whiteness comes off... if it does, i’d bet it was a urate stain. I would then observe the snake to make sure its not constantly comming back. If it doesnt come off( or comes back), I would seek advice from a vet. But the only way youmay be able to comfort yourself is to know for sure what it is, and then take the snake to the vet.

I hope its something simple like the urate speil! Best wishes Sara!
