Around this time of yr he frustrates me helppp

Hey guys, last year around dec my snake went off feed for about 3 months. He’s been pounding down small rats since march every 10 days for me. The last 2 times I tried to feed him, he’s hunted but hasn’t struck. What’s goin on? Nothing has changed as far as temps. Do they sense the winter and slow down? Also he was hangin out of his small black cubby hide does this mean its time to upgrade to a med? He just shed a week and a half ago and pooped so he should be hungry. Idk I need advice I’m holding a rat hostage for another 5 days

Is he your only ball python, or do you have females too? He may be more interested in breeding right now than eating.

He’s my only snake, he’s about 494 grams now. Yea but it just scares me when he doesn’t eat. He seems interested but just won’t execute.

I have two males like that right now. They express some interest, but it looks like the majority of their interest is in the adult females in the room (& in trying to figure out how to get to them). Neither has eaten in 3 weeks, but they have not lost a gram, so I’m not worried. I continue to offer food every feed day anyway. These guys are 550ish grams each & are both producing sperm plugs. But I have another male that is 800 grams and his chomping away at small f/t rats every week.

All my males have slowed down at that size... between 400-600grams you tend to see a decrease in eating. But to be honest that does seem small for a BP of his age.

If your temps are good and there is no husbandry concerns, he may just be being a BP. I have a few males that are not bred and are kept separate from my breeding females, they paced all of last season and didn’t eat either.

Monitor his weight, and if he’s not losing then I wouldn’t worry too much. Yeah... I know, now so easy is it? :)

Yea I guess I’m just concerned. Last winter he was only 3 months and 154 grams so this summer he bulked up to 494 grams. I just don’t want him to lose anything but its only been 2 weeks. Is that small? He just turned 1 year. What’s the average weight for a 1 year old.

there is no average weight for a ball python, they all grow at a diffrent rate, depending on the bp. I think he should be fine.just keep offering food.
