 Securing Probes?

I’m about to finish my setup and have my Zoo med UTH with an Alife thermostat. The thermostat has a pretty big probe with a suction cup. I read somewhere they said not to use tape to secure wiring because the tape can come up and its bad news to get tape off scales. So the question is do I trust just a single suction cup to secure the probe or go a different route? Its the anti tape advice bogus?

This is my setup so far

Here’s the probe

And OT here’s my project I just finished last month my AR-15 6.8SPC Custom I put together with part kits and patients lol

You can try silicone or hot glue, let dry for a day or two before putting your BP back

Yeah tape is bad. If it gets stuck you will have a heck of a time getting it off without hurting your snake. We don’t secure our probe in our boa cage at all. Just kinda lay it in the bottom of the warm hide and it shouldn’t go anywhere.

Nice AR-15. My husband wants one and his dad has one.

tape is bad, it should b fine, but you need to get ride of the log hides and get 2 identical hides that will touch your BP all around its body, and be tight and secure. Other then that it looks good as long as you temps and humidity are good. The hot side should be 90-95 and the cool side should be 80-85 and humidity should be 50-60% and can go up to 70% during and only during sheds.

yeah I tried the rock hides but to have em large enough they took up the whole tank with the water bowl in the middle lol. Its a 20L tank I really don’t want to go bigger than that for such a young BP. I figured I’d get away with the half log cutouts if I pushed em all the way back.

Well that would be fine if they want to be out of the hide he will sit on the. It’s just for the well bing for you snake, they like it more and the fell more secure.

the rock hides you use. Are they small enough for him to be snug inside them/ If it is a young BP then they shouldn’t be big enough to take up the whole cage.

Thanks. Check out cardinalarmoury the 6.8 SPC is a lot more powerful and flater shooting bullet than the standard military 5.56mm. If you get just the standard upper reciever its easy to go cheap with parts kits and put an AR together on your own. Just have to get the headspacing (spacing from barrel to upper reciever) done by a pro its kind of important lol. I didn’t go cheap lol the SOCOM stock alone was $200 lol.

Just dig the log hides down into the bedding an inch or two and it gets real snug. I’ve also closed off the entrances, only having a little opening for the snake crawl into so less light gets in, the hide doesn’t feel so open, etc. Worked wonders for me.

When I get her tuesday I’ll try the rock hides. They just seemed too huge when I put them in but I’ll try again.

I know what you mean about the prices. Gun aren’t cheap by any means. He has been luck enough to have been given most of his guns as gifts. Has several shot guns and rifles, one 9mm and one 454 revolver. The AR will have to wait. Maybe when he gets back from Iraq next year I will let him have one. Lol

You can run a piece of paper under your bedding... that will secure the probe but not make it permanent.

Might be a bit harder to figure out real temps, but I do this with my corns. I lay the probe down, I put a medium sized piece of newspaper over it, and then I pour the aspen on top of that and place the hide over it.

LoL the wife calls the shots on what he gets to shoot huh? The man’s comming back from Iraq he should get his own AR as a welcome home present ;)
If you/he is into big bore revolvers the S&W 460 is really nice you can shoot 3 different rounds out of it the .45 long colt, .454 casual, and the .460. I’m a proud owner of the Horton Exclusive Smith and Wesson 500 .50 cal revolver 1 of 1000 made with 6.5" barrel that uses the same X frame as the .460. I only get 5 shots in the cylinder but its 5 uber powerful shots 1600ft/lbs compare that to a hot round .44 mag’s 900 ft/lbs lol.

Well his previous tour he got a $17,500 motorcycle as a welcome home gift. We are going to be working on catching up on bills and stuff while he is gone so we will see whats left when he gets home Lol. Yes he likes the big ones. Personally I will stick with the .22 lever action rifle. The big guns have too much kick for me!

Aww I’m jealous lol I’m saving for a harley 1200 105th anniversary .

But thats one of the great things about AR-15’s is its a decently powerful round (especially the 6.8SPC and .308 caliber) but still only has a kick of a .22 rifle since the buffer spring takes out a lot of the recoil.

About the wires though I’m going to take your guy’s advice about the silicone, thanks all for your input.

The great thing about tape...they make all kinds of it. Use electrical tape or a masking tape made for taping off trim and such for painting.

Tape it. Its easy to do, and easy to fix.
