 Head Shed and Eyecaps?

Just a quick question. My BP still has head shed and eyecaps about a week after it finished shedding the rest of its skin. I am wondering if there is anything I can do to help it finish up? It is very head shy, so I have avoided touching its head so far. Mostly I have bathed it and let it crawl around my hands, hoping that would work.

Any Help would be appreciated.

hydration is number one thing.....soak it for a bit.and gently rub the head where the skin starts.....some people take the caps off themselves but if you dont know how....a vet can easily fix that for you... check your humidity as well...sounds like its to low

This way works very well:
Get a damp towel and apillowcase. Gently wrap the snake inthe towl, and place itinto the pillow case. Tie the pillow case shut, and let the snake craw around in the pillow case for a little ( 15-20 min)

this works because it is kinda forcing the snake to rub against something- but the snake won’t be as scared as if you tried to gently rub the damp towel on the stuck shed. Thi sshould remove the eye caps as well.

you may have to do this a few times to remove all the stuck shed.

I find it kinda hard to tell if a snake has eye caps on- the last thing you want to do is try to remove eyecaps that are not really there. The pillowcase trick will work to remove eye caps as well. Worst case senerio- just check the next shed to make sure the eye caps came off ( bump your humidity up to 70% when you see the signs of a snake going into shed- pink belly and blue eyes) I always bump humidity up for a shed.

:D

best wishes!

You can try getting a pillow case and soaking it with warm water. Wring the excess water you of the pillow case and put you snake in that for 5 to 10 minuts. Just make sure the pillow case doesnt get too cold.
I agree with the low humidity thing, do you know what the humidity is in your tank?

The humidity stays around 55% normally, but I bumped it up to about 60-65% during shed. This is the first shed since I brought him home from the pet store, which he started right after I got him home. I was thinking that this may have been part of the bad shed. The conditions at the store weren’t great and lots of stress there. I will try to the towel/pillowcase thing and see if that helps.

Thanks all for the advice.

It may take a few sheds in your care to get him shedding right. The pet store was probally frying him like a bacon with the over head light.
