Feeding Problems Voodoo, my female ball python (pic at the end of this message) was fine eating fresh killed mice, she ate like 5 mice a week before we finally got her a rat...she had a little trouble since it was so much larger than the mice, but she ate it. The week after, she wouldn’t eat, and this this past feeding she refused to eat a fresh killed rat, so we tried with a mouse...again no luck. As a last resort, we tried just giving her a live one, and she took it no problem...Is there any reason she changed preference like that? her cage stays at about 88-92, she has an UTH plus a light since it does get pretty cold here.

Feeding Problems probably just not used to new food.Try offering her 2 mice and 1 rat pup a week and then work your way up until only rats.

Feeding Problems eh, based on wut ive researched, its normal for your snake to simply stop eatin until march.. so i wouldnt worry about having to feed her all the time. its due to the winter season, even if her cage is toasty they just dont, especially mature bp’s. rats are more nutritious than mice so thats good. well thats my 2cents.

Feeding Problems They usually do that when they’re at breeding age though. By the sounds/looks of it, the snake isn’t at breeding age. I could be wrong though. It may also have been that the snake was still full from before. I think switching from mice to a bigger meal like a rat would fill them up much more, and it might take some time for their body to adjust to it. Instead of trying all kinds of things like you did, I would’ve just gave it another week and tried again with another rat. The snake isn’t going to waste away skipping a week of eating. Just my two cents.

Feeding Problems How big a rat did you give your snake? Rats come in different sizes and the small rats I buy are only a little bigger than the large mice I buy, Sometimes if the mouse is really large and the rat really small I have trouble telling them a part. I feed my largest ball medium rats, and she is 54 inches long and weighs 8 pounds. And, if you snake is an adult, she may have simply gone off feed until March. My big girl stops eating around the first of November and doesn’t start again until March. I do offer her food every few weeks during this time but she refuses it.

Feeding Problems We did give her a rat pup, was a bit bigger than what she was used to but not much. Knowing nothing about her previous owner’s habits, I don’t know about her going off feed, but it doesn’t look like she’s going to go off feed...she’s a very healthy eater. Very. Either way, thanks for everyone’s responses, This week we’ll see what she eats and go from there.

Feeding Problems Mine goes off feed all at once every year. She will eat her rat every Friday from sometime in March until around the first of November and then with no warning just stop eating. It was very distrubing the first year I had her but I have learned that it is going to happen. The day we were speaking to experts about her at a show in March was the first time she ate in over four months. This was severl years ago and we were very relieved to learn that it is natural.
