SOO EXCITED - First PET SNAKE
Oh man i am soo excited - im picking up my CB ball python tomorrow! I already went out this evening and bought everything to make the tank... i used a 10 gallon tank, then taped carboard on three sides to make it feel more secure.. a water bowl, a hide spot, already had the newspaper lying around, a thermometer, and a heat lamp... including the price of Diablo (ya thats my new name, and i havent even seen the lil thing yet!) the bill came out to like $126... woo thats gonna leave a mark. Im gettin a hatchling which was captive born, thank goodness. Those are supposed to be much more easy to handle and feed. I hope my tank is good enough... I still have to figure out:1) How do i create and KEEP humidity? 2) How do i seal the top off, i dont feel like wasting money on a store bought top cuz it was as expensive as the whole tank!!! I need at top that will retain humidity that i can easily, EASILY put together

SOO EXCITED - First PET SNAKE So you don’t have the tank set up and heated already? You might want to get going on that if you’re getting the snake tommorrow, or today, or whatever, lol. Sometimes it takes time to get the heat steady and good. Took me a few days to get heat set up and stable, and took a week to figure out whats good with humidity. And I highly suggest you put the money into a screen cage for tanks. You must make sure that the tank is escape proof. BP’s are little houdinis and can get out with the smallest imperfection in a tank. I have a 20 gallon screen top on my tank that cost me 20 dollars at my local pet store. But it’s pretty sturdy and made well(all steel). I also have two big heavy bricks on the corners so the snake can’t push the top up at all. If you’re getting the snake today or tommorrow, you’ve got some prep to do beforehand. Good luck. =(

SNAKE pay the 10$ for a top it will make life better and secure it with either rope or heavy weight for the time being. Cover all of the screen top except the part with the light with plastic so you can keep in the humidity when you mist the tank. Also...only use a low wattage house bulb in the lamp or do not use it at all and use heat tape or a heat pad for your heat source. This is much much better and will help with humidity. Do all this and you will be happy. offer a hide in both the small and the large part of the tank. Not all these ball pythons are mine but I took all those pics and the ones that are not mine are owned by my friends so from what you can see I know my ball pythons and so do the people with the animals that are not mine...lots of money there and everyone is very picky about not losing an animal. Good luck and put whatever you can into good housing.

SOO EXCITED - First PET SNAKE I have seen corn snakes push bricks out of the way so I put two bungees around my tanks, one on each end, that don’t have a locking top instead of setting something heavy on them. I have even had a corn snake still push open a tank that was bungeed down. As I can afford to buy tanks with locking tops I am doing so and switching the tanks without them out. I only have a couple of those left now. I don’t think that you would have as much problem with balls pushing the bricks out the way because they don’t seem to climb as much as the corns do.

SOO EXCITED - First PET SNAKE no, not at all. My most escaped animals are ball pythons from cages I would never think they could get out of. I tie ropes around some ages. I have even had a ball pop open a critter cage that slides and latches to close. It slid it open from the inside enough to get through and the thing almost knowcked ver a 40 gallong arborial on a stand during its venture throughout my snake room. It was not bad because I have all my snakes in one room so this ball was too big to get through dracks of the door or vents but if it knocked over the arborial with my tree boas they would be gone forever. after that I wanted to get locks for every cage. So far i am getting locks for everything easy to put a lock on and doing my best to secure the rest. I have seen ball pythons get out of stuff i would have thought was impossible so now I dont even want to walk by their enclosures with my keys exposed in fear they might sneak one off the ring when I am cleaning. lol

SOO EXCITED - First PET SNAKE *LOL* We keep our keys on the shelf the canebrake is on in hopes that the other snakes are too afraid to try for them. But, seriously, we have an escaped tangerine honduran milk snake that I have yet to figure out how he made it out of the cage as it was bungeed at each end and still bungeed when we found he was missing. I saw the breeder at the Greenville herp show and laughinly accused him of training the snake to come back home. I bought another tangerine and named her Houdini in honor of the first becuase of the great escape. I hope that this one doesn’t live up to her namesake.
