Seeing things?! Hey its probably nothing... But i took a look at mr. Diablo today, and his skin seems a bit weird. Ever so slightly noticeable... It looks like he’s, ASHY?! lol maybe he needs lotion. But seriously wuts up with that? His eyes are crystal clear, but his head and body, at a certain angle, seem a little milky covered. Is he dry? Is there not enough humidity? There’s water droplets condensed on the inside of the glass, so i’m assuming that its humid in there...

Seeing things?! Try soaking him. Make sure he drinks, he sounds dehydrated.

Seeing things?! Sometime the skin will look dull before the eyes start clouding up. Probally going into shed. Still it will not hurt him to soak him.

Seeing things?! You’re assuming? With bp’s, you can’t just assume. You need a good hygrometer to measure the humidity. It’s just as important as having an accurate digital thermometer to measure the temperatures. Too much, or not enough humidity can cause health problems such as Respiratory Infection, or blisters and scale rot.

Seeing things?! ok ok here’s what i did. i soaked him, or rather i wet him a little bit. of course, the water simply beaded off of him. Well anyhow i went to petsmart, and bought a better thermometer, and i bought a hygrometer. Turns out the humidity is at 50% so ha! I was doing fine. I decided to uncover half of the top of the mesh; i had it covered before. The other half is covered with a cut out only for the lamp. I ALSO bought an infrared lamp for diablo so i can keep it running at night. I dont feel the need for a heat pad now. So there it is: thermometer (two of them now), hygrometer, mist bottle (i bought that too), basking lamp, infrared bulb and basking bulb, ceramic hide out, water bowl, and newspaper as a substrate. Sounds like everything is AOK, yes? I will have pics in about two weeks; i jus bought a webcam off ebay so i can take pics of him!

Seeing things?! Hey there little buddy! I don’t think Pelota was trying to bust your b^ll$ or anything. She was only trying to tell you that you just needed to fix a few things for the good of your snake. I think You did that. That is, after all the, whole reason you started this thread, to get some advice. The advice She gave was good. You got a hydrometer. Now you don’t have to guess what the humidity is. That is very important for the well being of your snake. If people here seem to come across strong, It is mostly people who are really passionate about husbandry. Please don’t take it personally, as they only want to help you become a better herper. I’m darn glad they are here. They have helped me and my snakes tremendously. I personally think your snake may be better off with some kind of belly heat from a pad. Helps them digest the food better. You may want to look into it. Human heat pad costs about $15. at wal mart. Good luck. I’m glad you are making efforts to get things right. You and your snake will be better for it.

Seeing things?! Yeah dude, I wasn’t biting your head off. If I wanted to make it sound like I was upset or something, I’d have used exclamation points!! and/or CAPS LOCK. And it’s cool that you went and got a thermometer and hygrometer, but sadly, if it’s from a pet shop, it’s most likely those stick on thermometers. They’re known to be pretty inaccurate and stuff. That’s why I mentioned a digital thermometer and hygrometer. They’re a bit more expensive(Acurite Digital Thermometer at Walmart is about 15 dollars) but much more accurate. As for 50% humidity, that’s okay, but I like to keep my humidity at 55-60% during non shed times, then I bump it up to 80% when the snakes in shed stages. Again, I wasn’t trying to jump on you. Just throwing in my little knowledge that I have to offer. Oh, and yeah, I’m a he, lol. I really need a name change...Cody was already taken. Pelota = my female 6 month old ball python Cody = my (soon to be in march)20 year old self

Seeing things?! Hey... would a snake not eat if it were going to go into a shed?? Because i noticed Diablo’s belly is ever so slightly pinker, dont worry it cant be scale rot because i use newspaper as a substrate and its nice and dry and i have the proper humidity.. But i tried to feed him and he didnt want it or didnt eat it, so perhaps he is going to shed soon?? His eyes are still CRYSTAL clear, but the bell was a lil light pink. And his skin still has that ASHY look to it, LOL. I will send pics tomorrow which should really help you all see what i mean.

Seeing things?! Some will take food during shed and others will not, but it’s not uncommon for them to refuse.
