i know i posted this in a different thread but i didnt think it’d get a lot of attention there. by the sounds of what i’ve been reading it seems that i might not be feeding my snake the right size mouse my snake is about 2yrs old and she’s 2ft and i feed her "hoppers" , they’re mice that are not quite adults yet....should she be eating small rats by now??? am i under feeding her??

Is your snake a ball python? If it’s a smaller snake species, then maybe you are feeding correct sizes, but if it’s a 2 year old bp, then yeah it should be on rats by now. Feed your snake a rodent that’s the same thickness as the thickest part of your snakes body.

Any pics of your snake? I’d like to see how big it is.

When my balls are babies I feed them prey that is a little bigger around than the snake is. This is at the snake’s tummy. Once they get a year and half to two years old I feed them prey that is about the same size they are because they get so big in the tummy and their head and neck are very small compared to their tummy. I have a rescue ball python that, I think, is two and she eats small rats.

I didn’t see you started a thread about this ... so ima re-post this here :P ________________________________________

Anastasia .... you doubted me about feeding size...

But I think another person confirmed it :P .... just bugging. It not bad if Isabell eats mice that are smaller, she just has to eat more that way. You should get some bigger food so when i come over to feed your snake during the christmas break, i am not there all day, making sure she has afull belly :P

just buggin .... later

From the pic, your snake is about the same size as the one I have that I am feeding small rats. I buy my mice and rats from a breeder who lives near me and sometimes when I order large mice and I get a really big one I have trouble telling it from the small rats.

Your snake seems a bit thicker than my Pelota is right now, and she’s eating weaned rats. I’m sure yours could take a small rat, but if you don’t want to jump to something larger too soon, try a weaned rat. Only problem I see is your snake might not take to the rats right away since it’s been on mice all this time. But it won’t hurt to try.

That snake could easily handle a more nutritious small rat.

My Diablo is only about 6 months old and i already fed him a mouse for his second meal (as opposed to a hopper). It took him a bit to get it down, but he did it, come to think of it i gotta change his paper :-D
