I AM GOIN TO BE SICK

OMG OMG OMG that was disgusting!!! Guys im trying again tonite to feed diablo, so i took mousie out of the freezer and used the heating lamp to thaw it out... well it was going ok, before mousie STARTED TO COOK! It was nasty, but basically his insides started to expand! now theres guts and junk spilled, i guess that may make mousie a bit more attractive to eat? well mousie is in the tank, no lights on, cover on, and mousie is warm and toasty so lets hope this happens, cuz if not, i got a mess to clean up! The best way to thaw them is in a Glass of hot water. Let the water run until it is the hottest it is going to get and then when it gets cold just fill the glass again with hot water wait about 5 minutes and it will be done. This will keep you from having to deal with the mess again.
LOL that is pretty nasty.

You wait till he starts eating big rats. Then the heat lamp goes out and he regurges after the rat has been in his stomach for 4 days, That will make you sick. Shoot It will make a maggot sick and a billy goat puke.

If the mouse actually started to COOK then I wouldn’t feed it to your snake. Cooked meat can make a snake ill or worse. That’s why it’s recommended not to just pop a rodent in the microwave to thaw. And yeah, thawing under a heat lamp isn’t the best idea. It usually just cooks the outside and stuff, unlike hot water in a glass or bowl, which penetrates heat through the whole body and thaws it good, inside and out.

I agree. The cup of warm water is the best way to thaw prey items. If you want to be sure it’s good and warm before feeding your snake, you can place the mouse under the heat lamp for ’30 seconds’ or so right before you offer it.

I heat the water in a pot until it is about 150 degrees which is too hot to stick your finger in but not hot enough to cook the mouse. I drop mine directly in the hot water because that way the mouse is wet and gives the snake a little extra water for hydration. I know one guy who puts his mice in a plastic bag before dropping it in the water to keep the mouse dry. What ever you prefer will work.

You do that after it’s thawed right? Or is it already thawed and that’s how you warm it up a bit more? Cuz you’d have to run it under hot water for a while to thaw a frozen rodent, lol.
