I will never doubt you again
Roachy56 you were right about the corn cob. I fed Isabella last night and corn cob got on the mouse and she tried to scrape most of it off but ened up swallowing about 3 and one got caught in the roof of her mouth, she couldn’t close her mouth it actually looked like her jaw was broken at first I was completely freaking out!! I’m not sure but i think the corn cob cut her mouth and now i’m worried about the three she swallowed.... so ya to make a long story short NEVER USE CORN COB!!! even if the vet tells you to!!

I will never doubt you again I wouldn’t worry too much because a snake’s digestive system is very strong. After all it consumes flesh, bones and hair and doesn’t leave much of its food behind. *LOL* You know what comes out when you clean the cage. Besides, I don’t really know what a vet could do for it anyway unless it was suffering.

If not, the vet may be able to help you there but I doubt that the vet can do anything about what she swallowed. This is one reason I recommend that everyone feed their snakes in seperate feeder boxes. There is no substrate there for them to swallow.

I will never doubt you again I was just wondering about that actually... What do you normally do? i’ve read posts that say you shouldn’t handle them 48hrs after they’ve eaten so if its in a seperate container to you leave it there for the 48hrs or do you move it right away??

I will never doubt you again No, let them eat and then move them back to their cage and then leave them alone for 48 hours. I put the snake in the feeder box and then the food and then I cover up the box with a cloth and leave them for about an hour unless it is one that I feed live. I watch them until the snake kills the prey or at least constricts it before covering them up. Once the hours is up, I put the snake back in its cage and leave them alone. The hours also gives me time to do any cleaning that needs to be done and make sure that all is good in the cage. If the snakes hasn’t eaten in the hour I throw the prey away as I don’t want to refreeze it and put the snake up. I assume that it isn’t hungry. I do keep records of all my snakes so I can check back to see how long it has been since one has eaten and also what they are eating, like fuzzies or mice, etc. I watch the :live" eaters because I want to make certain that they have the upper hand because once in a while the prey will win if left alone.

I will never doubt you again I hope that you are using tongs to make the mouse dance. I have known people who were accidentally bitten by dangling the mouse with their fingers. Good thing it wasn’t a hot.

I will never doubt you again That doesn’t sound bad at all. You shouldn’t really trust a snake and take them for granted. A lot of times we forget they’re not a real domestic pet like a cat or dog. They still have their natural instincts. No matter how much you think your snake loves you, it will bite you with instinct. I found out a month ago when feeding Pelota. She was done eating, and I had just came back from washing my hands. She was getting under her newspaper, and I tried moving her so I can get the newspaper out of the cage and let her settle in for the night. She felt vulnerable(as they do after eating) and swung around and tagged me on the hand. Left two little fang marks and some blood. Before that I never thought she’d bite me like that. I could understand it if I smelled like rodent, but I had cleaned my hands and stuff. She was still in feeding mode though, and her instinct was to strike. Totally my fault. After that, I gained respect for Pelota and realized that no matter how much I think she loves me, she still acts upon instincts. Oh, and as for your bp ingesting corn cob, the main reason I dont like that stuff is because it’s very absorbant, and is known to cause impaction if ingested. It can swell up inside and cause impaction to your snake. So I’d keep an eye on your bp and see if she has her regular bowel movements and stuff.

I will never doubt you again Ya .... i had something close to that happen to me too. I was feeding T’Pol with tweesers. and i dropped the mouse in front of her accidently. She was looking at it, but when i moved my hand to pick up the mouse,(with the tweesers), she got me on the finger. Didn’t hurt, but wow are they fast!~ Anyways, ya Amy&Isabella, you better make sure she is ok. I don;t want to be looking after a sick snake ... and then you come back ... and .... Just bugging, im sure shes fine! I forgot i have to work wednesday 3-11 so i’ll have to come over no later then 1:30 ... call me if thats ok. I would, but i never did get your number. Umm you should proly get me some contact numbers as well, so if for what ever reason i can get ahold of you while your gone. Anyways .. bed time ... later :P Jake
