Should I Trust Petco?? But this petco fully cleans ALL the cages every week and they feed them F/T to ALL there snakes and also my friend complained and the SPCA came to help them out and always randomly comes to check all animals to make sure every things in order. Should i get my snake from petco plus there’s a 15 day guarantee so if it doesn’t eat ill return it... they will also do a feeding demo. So yes or no from petco?? (IT RHYMES)Maleeh

I would take a close look at the snake, Does it have mites, are all of the scales in place, make sure its mouth is closed and no mouth rot is present, are its eyes clear and free of eye caps, is it flicking its tongue.....if all checks are ok I would consider buying the snake from them..........Good Luck!!

Should I Trust Petco?? As was mentioned, I’d take a closer look. Sure you can be good and keep the cages clean and feed them, but the husbandry has to be good too. How are the temperatures and humidity? Does each snake have their own cage? Are the cages large enough in proportion the the snakes size? Do they have hiding spots? Now health: Any signs of URI? Mouth open, mucous in/around mouth area, keeping head upwards to breathe, wheezing? Any signs of IBD? Star-gazing? Does the snake flip right-side up fast if turned belly up? Any signs of dehydration? Wrinkled/loose skin? Dented eyes? How about shedding? Do they come off completely? Any stuck pieces? Eye caps come off? Mites?I could go on and on, lol. But yeah these are all things to look for when choosing a snake. You usually don’t have to worry about that stuff if buying from a good breeder. But if buying from a pet store like Petco *shudders* you should be careful. The caretakers at Petco could be doing everything right with their husbandry, but you can still get a bad snake. It’s all in the source you get the snake from. I highly suggest you consider buying from an online breeder. It’s totally worth the extra money you pay for having it shipped, especially the peace of mind with knowing you’re getting a healthy, captive bred snake. Just my 2 cents.

Should I Trust Petco?? I never trust a pet store until I get to know every one there personally and unfortunately that means I only trust the locally owned stores because the big chains turn over rate in employees can be over 100% per year. There are two stores in my area that I trust, one is owned by the lady who started it over 25 years ago and the other is a regional chain but I know everyone in there and the lady who is the reptile manager is really super. Also, the big chains will hire anyone regardless of experience or knowledge so it pays to be very careful when dealing with them.

Should I Trust Petco?? Usually the guarantees on snakes don’t cover not eating. They are usually not satisfaction guarantees but instead a ’we guarantee this snake not to die’. This may not be true in your store but it is true in most. Try to find out who the breeder was and get into contact with him. If it is a reputable breeder and he still has some left, you should probably buy from him instead.

Should I Trust Petco?? I also got Severus from Petco. However, by that point I had done a ton of research on husbandry and such. I asked several of the employees questions about care and feeding and the ones who were responsible for the retiles knew the answers. I checked the snake out and watched everything very closely. I have purchased other animals from there as well. To be completely honest, while I was living in Kansas City, I did not find a non-chain pet shop anywhere near as clean and cared for as the Petco that I shopped. There were other Petcos and Petsmarts in the area that were not as well maintained and I would probably not purchase animals from them.

Should I Trust Petco?? I got Ripley from petco, the one in my area is very clean and the person in charge of the reptiles new all the right answers, I researched for about six months and got all the stuff before I got her, it all depends on the store and who is in charge.. that said, when I get another one it will be from a breeder.
