I agree but, with a snake that size, they should have made sure the snake was SECURELY locked when theres little kids in the house

i agree too. One article strongly urges you to contact fwc, if anyone you knows has a python. I foresee lots of trouble!!!!

I have a burmese and several children. Before we purchased her we designed a large enclosure for her that takes a screw gun and pad lock to open for a reason

Sorry i don’t believe that is what happened, if the snake was locked up how did it get out and did the kid smell like the snakes food. Somethings up with this one and the little kid is the victim! But they will blame the snake! My heart and prays go out to the child.

it doesn’t take that much creativity to recreat a snake attack....Get a needle and prick the child’s forehead, smother the child, then stab the snake and say it killed her. It sounds like the boyfriend and the mom planned this. I hate that people try to pin this on the snake. I don’t think the snake would have touched her if it had gotten out and surely they would have heard something if the snake had gotten out. The child, probably an early riser, would had at least screamed if she was awake if the snake had bit her. People are just sick. You should punish the snake for the sins of the human.

Muttsnakelover, I was thinking too, something doesnt seem right. Will and can a 12 footer kill, sure-but other things didnt add up. Snake is out of enclosure and you immediately run to small child’s room? Like you said, no screams and this was 9:30 am??
Also, they havent handed snake over and waiting for a warrant? Ok I understand not entering without a warrant, but emd eaminers were inside...Snake not positively dead, last seen under dresser????
If snake fatally wounded, or dead, why not turn over the carcass...

I was looking for that, is it live?
I have heard two officials say its not bad to have these as pets but takes responsibility and due diligence.

I have to say I have lots of questions, most deaths are accidents with older children being cocky or adults, not having second person, giving meds ect.

A child, in her crib, possibly sleeping leads me to wonder if the snake was hungry searching for food.

Also, dont understand bag thing, fine for transport, but, umm in enclosure-Unless having a really bad shed, and not the route Id try, I dont understand that, certainly not if you have proper enclosure

this is al a sad event specially with the lost of a child, I know that around here ( my trailer) you can’t go into the snake room unless 1 I am home,2 I give premission, and 3 there is at least one other adult in the trailer . ( so minuim of 3 people in the residents. Plus I don’t keep any of the burmese or retic pythons which seems to be 90% of these type of calls outside of vemonous snakes .

The real bad part this is more fuel for the remake of the snake ban people and trying to pass such laws.

Yes, Im sure that is why on every station and newspaper they all switch to the pythons in the everglades. (As if that has anything to do with this tragedy)

it looked thin to me too so either way I say it’s the parent’s fault not the snake’s. Some people are so irresponsible.

Thats the way it should be, especially with small children in the house.
I wonder if the snake was TIED in the bag, and the enclosure locked...if it was, I dont see how it could have gotten out. It may take a bit before we know what really happened.

I just don’t believe it. If one of my animals killed my child (if I had one)there would be a blood bath ! BLOOD BATH I tell you I would stab it until there was a huge hole in my floor and atleast hacked into a zillion pieces. 1 stab wound ?? c’mon.

you’ve got to be kidding. Snakes are predators, they may get "tamed" but NEVER domesticated, which means it is still a WILD animal.

It is plain to see that the snake killed the child. The kid did not need to smell like a rodent or the snakes typical prey. If it thinks it can swallow the prey, it will try.

So to try to say the parents are "framing" the snake for their actions is not only insane, but completely insensitive. The crime scene investigators have ways of telling if the child was smothered or constricted, the body would be in completely dif. condition. You can also tell the dif. between a pin prick and the wound a snakes bit would leave.

This stuff happens far too often, and yes, it is usually the humans ineptitude and lack of knowledge that causes it. You do not keep a burmese in a glass aquarium. they are like all snakes, escape artists, and if hungry, well, you saw the result.

It is idiocy like this that makes me think that HR669 may not have been such a bad idea. just rewrite it with strict regulation on the large snakes and slim to moderate if any on the smaller ones.

Or maybe the people in florida should just not be allowed to own snakes at all. Everytime a very tragic event like this occurs, it’s always in florida. I simply do not understand why someone would get any pet, especially a burmese python, and not know how to take care of it and keep it.

A boa is capable of killing a human adult. People simply do not have enough respect for their pets sometimes. The guy kept it in a bag in an aquarium. That is just stupid, a burmese needs a custome or specially built encloser. the little critter tanks you buy at pet stores are simply not adequate. an 8 ft burmese can push their way out of any of the commercial terrariums you can get at pet smart, simply by forcing the screen off or tearing through it.

This is sad that a little girl had to die because of the adults stupidity.

I am also thinking the parents may be involved. You would have heard screaming if the snake had bit someone and you could even make the snake bite the kid by putting a rabbit or whatever it eats on the child so the snake bites it just to make it more realistic. Im not sure on the parents but something doesnt seem right.
