I have a burmese and several children. Before we purchased her we designed a large enclosure for her that takes a screw gun and pad lock to open for a reason |

I have heard two officials say its not bad to have these as pets but takes responsibility and due diligence. I have to say I have lots of questions, most deaths are accidents with older children being cocky or adults, not having second person, giving meds ect. A child, in her crib, possibly sleeping leads me to wonder if the snake was hungry searching for food. Also, dont understand bag thing, fine for transport, but, umm in enclosure-Unless having a really bad shed, and not the route Id try, I dont understand that, certainly not if you have proper enclosure |

The real bad part this is more fuel for the remake of the snake ban people and trying to pass such laws. |

Yes, Im sure that is why on every station and newspaper they all switch to the pythons in the everglades. (As if that has anything to do with this tragedy) |

Thats the way it should be, especially with small children in the house.
I wonder if the snake was TIED in the bag, and the enclosure locked...if it was, I dont see how it could have gotten out. It may take a bit before we know what really happened. |

It is plain to see that the snake killed the child. The kid did not need to smell like a rodent or the snakes typical prey. If it thinks it can swallow the prey, it will try. So to try to say the parents are "framing" the snake for their actions is not only insane, but completely insensitive. The crime scene investigators have ways of telling if the child was smothered or constricted, the body would be in completely dif. condition. You can also tell the dif. between a pin prick and the wound a snakes bit would leave. This stuff happens far too often, and yes, it is usually the humans ineptitude and lack of knowledge that causes it. You do not keep a burmese in a glass aquarium. they are like all snakes, escape artists, and if hungry, well, you saw the result. |

Or maybe the people in florida should just not be allowed to own snakes at all. Everytime a very tragic event like this occurs, it’s always in florida. I simply do not understand why someone would get any pet, especially a burmese python, and not know how to take care of it and keep it. A boa is capable of killing a human adult. People simply do not have enough respect for their pets sometimes. The guy kept it in a bag in an aquarium. That is just stupid, a burmese needs a custome or specially built encloser. the little critter tanks you buy at pet stores are simply not adequate. an 8 ft burmese can push their way out of any of the commercial terrariums you can get at pet smart, simply by forcing the screen off or tearing through it. This is sad that a little girl had to die because of the adults stupidity. |
