Newbie ?’s No, pine is not ok.Your temps are a little low, they should be 80-83*F on the cool side, and 90-93*F on warm side.

Newbie ?’s You can mist the cage several times a day to help with the humidity. I use a humidifier in my snake room too and sometimes in the winter I still have to mist the cages. BTW< the snake doesn’t not hear the lid, they have no hears and are deaf. However, it can feel the vibrations of the lid opening. I recommend feeding in separate cages because it gives the chance to handle each of my snakes every week and there is no way the snake can accidentally eat any substrate in the feeder boxes. I do feed my hots in their home cage because I figure that the fewer times I handle them the fewer opportunities I have of getting tagged.

Newbie ?’s Hey snakeman, can you PM me with some tips on getting humidity up? I dont have a humidifier or anything, and I mist the cages but with the heat lamps it just seems to fade the humidity away.

Newbie ?’s Are you talking about a room heater? If so the ceramic ones work well but I prefer using the oil filled type. They look like an old fashioned radiator and are made my DeLongi (Forgive my spelling) and you can find them at Lowes for less than 40 dollars. I have both an oil filled heater and a ceramic heater and I like the oil filled one better because it seems to heat the entire room more evenly and the ceramic one heats the area in front of it very well but areas in the room behind it just don’t heat up as fast. Now, if you want to heat the cage, get an under the tank heater and put it under about 1/3 of the tank. And, since you are using a rubber maid container and some people suggest this for glass tanks as well. do not put it directly on the cage. Raise the cage about an inch with some pieces of wood at the corners and that way the heater won’t damage the container and the heat will raise and warm the bottom of the cage. I hope this helps. Good luck.
