 Vet appt. set for tomorrow

so my vet appointment is set for tomorrow at 3. I’ll let you guys know what the vet says. Just one thing. . .when she is in the cage and on the floor, she is super lethargic, hardly moves. But when she is in the bath, she moves around like crazy. Her appearance is weak, but she still has a good grip when she wants to hold on to something. What would you take from that??

well floors are famous for drafts so she prolly freezing her tail off. My lowest tubs are about 2 -3 degrees cooler than the next shelf up. I got the room sealed but it alwasy that way durign the winter so I built the racks so they are at least 4 inches off the floor

oh, sorry. didn’t mean to give the wrong impression. She is in a tank about 4ft off the floor. I just put her down for a bit to see if she would move around and explore. But some good news, she is now using the hide, which is the first real effort I’ve seen her do inside her cage.

Lethargy could be an indication she isnt up to 100% health, or just because she was kept cold. I dont think a few days of correct temp will make a complete turn around, but i am not really sure about that either.

Be sure to mention that to the vet. She may have been active in the bath because she didnt like it that much and she was trying toget away from the water. But my boa when i had him, wasnt extremely active in the cage. I would see him cruiz the cage, but it was like in slow mo ( and it was when he was hungry) compared to ho wmy bps act when i see them cruizing when i am warming up the rats in the room.

Now, if you get meds, go for the shots and not oral. Believe me, I was terrified of giving shots to a snake so the first time I did oral meds. They wont work as good as shots b/c of the snakes slower metabilism, and its gonna be much harder to force a tbe down the snakes throat to give meds orally. Shots are qwuicker, and its only scary the first time when yo do it, once yo do it once, its not that bad afterwards.

good luck!

 Vet appt. set for tomorrow

I just got back from the vets office. He said there are no apparent signs or an RI. He gave her an injection of Amikacin just in case there is an early stage where the signs are minute. Told me to keep an eye on her for this next week and he will call me after five days to see how she is doing. He checked her mouth and all was normal. He believes she is doing well, a bit on the slim side, but well overall. He said with her not moving around as much could be temp, or stress with the new environment. Asked about the dots of mucus I saw when I removed the shed from the nostrils, and he explained that it could have been build up from not having anywhere to go. I may try and feed her in a week or two. Thanks for your help everyone!!!

the doctor knows best. im so glad that you havent just saved him but are activly making sure he is ok.some one needs to pat you on the back for a JOB WELL DONE. the shed problem you can help a little. what i did was try a bath in the tub with 1 inch of warm water. that dident work. my babby freaked out. so i tried the sink 1 inch warm water with my palm holding her head up. this worked great. i had to help her not float. but she sat there head in hand not struggling at all jusr sorta relaxed. for about 10 min. she will or he will do the rest.

The bath was probally stressing her out. It still had to be done. You can help by not filling the water all the way above her back. If it is too deep they will freak out.

Rick

And congrats on the new snake man.
