I want to start breeding but need advice You should start out with whatever is the cheapest to buy. If you only have 1000 to spend albino hets are off the list. Along with most every other morph. A good starting breeder is the Normal Morph Ball Pythons. You could get a nice girl for $75-80 and her set up total would only be around $200. ( If you would use newspaper as a substrate) (good substrate to use!) Sites that can help www.newenglandreptile.com go to caresheets then ball pythons and reed about breeding www.ballpython.com go to information, then eggs and incubation. Hope that helps! I want to start breeding but need advice Maleeh, I admire your enthusiasm but you have only very recently gotten your first snake. I think that you should keep this snake for a couple years at least and learn everything you can about it and taking care of it before you get into breeding. I assume that you want to make some money off your hobby but one thing to remember is that there are lots of breeders out there and that means that every time someone else starts breeding the selling price of the snakes will go down and the costs to keep and breed them will go up.One other caution I make is to remember that you may not be able to sell every animal you get through a breeding program and means you have to be responsible for them for their entire life. This applies to cats, dogs, snakes, horses and everything else someone may decide to breed. Please don’t take offense but think this thing through for at least a couple years before you commit yourself.

I want to start breeding but need advice SCSnakeman does have a point. But if you have thought it through 100% and are willing to keep unbought hatchlings maybe even there through there whole lives then go right ahead. But you have to think about space money and time. Eastern Herp Distributors

I want to start breeding but need advice My opinion is not to breed yet as well, but if you want to you should just leave the normal male alone...he is a pet. I see no point in breeding normals because if you have a male heavy clutch you will not even make enough to pay for the time you put into it. If you would like to breed something you can get hets or Poss. het. pairs of a few morphs for your $1000. Another option is to get into either the lower priced ghosts or pastels. Getting a male will nearly tap out your grand or possibly give you enough extra to buy a female normal. This will take time to raise them up to maturity (especially if you only get a baby female) that you can research and prepare during that time. i really see no way to lose money in the Bp morph business unless your animal dies. The price of the market might slowly go down but as you raise up an animal and the closer it is to breeding age, their price will go up. And with the lower priced morphs you really arent looking at much decrease possible. Pastels have been around the same for about 3 years and have somewhat gone up for females. The ghosts will give you hets. that will be worth a fair amount to sell (especially the females) and the pastels will give you roughly 50% in the first generation to a normal. Also, you can get a hovabator for like 30$

I want to start breeding but need advice I agree with EHD that building an incubator is the cheapest way to go and in a couple years when you are ready to start pm me and I’ll find some plans and send them to you. But if you want to buy one, you can find some at your local feed and seed store. They sell them for chicken eggs but they can readily be adapted for other eggs.

I want to start breeding but need advice You dont even need to think over it for a year. Just as long as it would take to think of your time, money, and space. i came up with the decision in about 4 months with my friend.Eastern Herp Distributors

I want to start breeding but need advice I am advising Roxmysox to wait a while because he is around 13 or 14 and I am not sure that his dad really wants the snakes in the first place.

I want to start breeding but need advice Just through here, Roxmysox is very interested in learning about and asks lots of questions but he has mentioned in some of his posts that his dad doesn’t’ want him turning the house into a zoo. I think that one day he will do very well with his snakes but he probably has to wait a few years. I remember the days when I wanted animals and had to deal with my parents. *LOL* Even now at age 47, I get "wondering why" questions not only from my mom but my wife’s as well.
