Be carfull of where you buy

a short story... i bought boop my female from rarepythons.com" thay dont exist anny more" she cost me 14 bucks. the down side in comparison i got eli here on reptic zone a morph. now here is the diffrence... when i got eli here from rick. might i tell you id do it again in a sec wonderfull experiance. he whighd at birth 81 grams "rick keeps great records" boop was 67 g when i got a scale. that was 1-2 months after i got boop. she was thin, had mites."which i called as a cutacy to the breeder" she was verry agressive tried and sucseeded in biting me several times.now that i have fattened her up a bit she still tries to get away . but the biting has stopped. i think one of two things . unlike rick who took verry good care of eli. boops was simply misstreated.so the moral of all this is dont make my mistake. just cus its a snake you want real bad. cheap doesnt mean good it means cheap. that means thay wanna sell it as fast as thay can so thay dont have to feed it.all in all in the end rick eli has been great.boop is comming back she is slow to trust humans but after all that she is comming around.

I see several things wrong here. First, it is not the breeder’s fault if a snake is not tame... it probably wasn’t handled much coming from a breeder. Secondly, it’s pretty wrong to accuse a breeder (in this sense, "rare pythons") of anything without strong evidence. Did you buy the snake at a show? If yes, then it is YOUR fault for picking out a skinny, mite-infested snake. Did you buy the snake online? When you received it did you notify them right away that the snake was not up to par? Instead of sitting online complaining about a skinny snake why don’t you work to get the problem fixed? Did you research the breeder before you bought your snake? And why are you praising a snake? It’s not up to them who they come from. I know that you want to "warn" people about where they buy from, but simply put there are already tools out there for that (fauna classifieds anyone?). This post to me seems very, very uncalled for and quite honestly, I get a little peeved when I see people b!tching about something but yet they seem to be doing nothing to alleviate the problem.

FYI- here is a Fauna BOI post on Rare Pythons
Link

I wouldnt buy a snake from them- too many questions arise from them int he BOI post- whic was started b4 you bought boop. Next time you buy online, check the breeder out ( use company name, real name, email address) on Fauna’s BOI and see if there is feedback on them, then make the decision from what you find. This is the tools Sara is talking about. ( I, too, understand you just want to help others by sharing your experience- but this will show people what to do b4 they buy a snake online)

I agree that aggression is not always the fault of the breeder. Clutch #2 from me has a few biters in it. They would hiss and strike at me constantly! Now they arent so bad- they are quicker to hiss and all, but are getting used to the handling routine. If someone had purchased them sooner tho, I am sure they would have noticed that the bps are a bit aggressiver. Heck, when someone does buy them now, they still may see that b.c the snake could revert back to its old tendencies after the stress of shipping and being in a new place, but I am confident with the correct handling routine they will calm down once again.

The mites speil would have goten me upset- but if you noticed mites on Boop when you got her, you should have contacted Rare Pythons about it immediatly. I agree that a snake should not be sent out with mites- I inspect mine thoroughly b4 I ship out. But that is also why I keep a can of provent a mite, and i always treat a new arrivals cage requardless of who I get the snake from. Even if I got a snake from Rick the snake would still be qtined and treated with pam. ( no offence rick...lol)

But at least Boop is doing better for you. Some snakes always seem like they just try to get away from you tho- you’ll notice with more snakes you have that they have different personalities. My spider and Mojo are good at being out, whereas Abbey( who i had since a baby) and fathead seem a little more nervous, so when I do hold them, i know they dont stay out as long as a snake that seems to handle being held more. Boop may just be like that, you know? She may just have a shyer personality.

But I am glad you see the point- buying the cheapest snake out there may not always be the best idea.
