HUMidity? 
what is humidity how do u watch/measure it control it. i only have 2 heat pads and a heat lamp?

humidity is the amount of moisture in the air. You measure it with a humidity gauge.also unless your room temps are in the 50’s you dont need 2 heat pads and a heat lamp. Get a digital thermometer with probe (one that has a built in humidity gauge) and measure temps with that. I have a feeling that they are at dangerous levels.

really? where do i get that. the thermomitor says 87 about with the 2 heat pads but its pretty cold in my house around 69. so you think its dangerous?well how do u make humidity and where do you get the measure thing and how much about?

you can get a digital thermometer with probe that has a humidity reading for about $15 at walmart, k-mart, lowes, home depot, etc.Humidity is a natural thing. You can increase it by misting the cage, using cypress mulch, cover part of the aquarium screen.

I find it works rather well to make a humid hide too, use a small rubbermade or steralite container, put in some sphagnum moss, and keep it slightly moist. My colombian rainbow likes a tight steralight heavily packed with spagnum, my bp prefurs a larger hide where he can sit on top of the spagnum not burrow threw it. I worry alot less about ambient humidity this way and it has worked well, however ymmv.

Yes, the proper humidity is absolutely necessary for your snake’s health and well being. Having two heat pads and a heat lamp will make it difficult for you to maintain a high enough humidity unless you live in a rain forest. You will have to mist the cage several times a day or perhaps get a humidifier from WalMart and run that in your room 24/7. And, running the humidifier in your room is healthful for you too. Having a large water dish in the tank will help with the humidity too.

i have a large water tank in my cage. i do have ahumidifyer i will plug that next to the cage but i have a towel around the top of my cage to keep the heat in there so it stays hot. the humidifyer smoke out hot air. will it be ok next to the cage how do i no if its to much humidity i dont have a some thing to measure it. should i still run it even though i have nothing to measure it. should i still run it even though i have a towel over the cage? what about at night when i completeley cover the cage so the temp doesnt go below 80. please respond asap

i turn the heat lamp off at night.. i keep a towel on during the day i wrap the cage with towels to keep it warm my room stays at 65 so i like to wrap the cage in towles at night so no heat can escape and it only lowers about 9 degrees. so should i plug the humidifyer in still. even though i have no way to measure it yet?

You probably still need the humidifier. Why don’t you just use the heat pads for a couple days and see what the temp is without the heatlamp? If it stays up stop using the heat lamp and that will help with the humidity but if you have to use it for temperature, you will definitely need the humidifier. The next time you go to WalMart buy yourself a thermometer with a humidity gauge on it.

snake man i have a towel over my cage also if i turned the heat lamp off and covered the cage completeley with towels it stays at like 80. i basically cant turn the heat lamp off with out covering my cage with towels becausae it will get to cold.

I also suggest you dont take any advice from the petstore where you got your snake from.Put the humidifier on tonight, then tomorrow get a digital thermometer with probe that has a humidity gauge on it and use that to get all your new readings.

It can be run to measure the temperature on the other side of the enclosure. It eliminates the need of having multiple measuring devices in the enclosure. Wal-mart sells the Accurite digital thermometer/hydrometer with outdoor probe for $15. This unit allows you to measure humidity and temps. on both sides of the enclosure all in one unit.
