 Update on Diablo

Hey guys, so guess what? I finally got Diablo to eat, and it took him about 30 seconds to go at it once the food was available to him.... However! I was forced to feed him live mouse. I HAD NO OTHER CHOICE! He refused to eat dead food! So i finally fed him a hopper, and bam he loved it! Shortly after, Diablo shedded, without a problem either! Things are going so well for him and me! I still use a red bulb at night and a basking bulb during the day, and he feels fine!

Good. Are you going to continue feeding him live critters? I do. A lot of folks probably disdain live feeding, but what the heck.. I like to imagine that my critters get some satisfaction from a live hunt. As long as you watch him everytime he feeds to make sure he doesn’t get chewed up, I don’t think there’s too much wrong with it.

I feed some of my snakes live and I try to watch them until they have at least constricted the mouse or rat. Then I cover their cage with a towel to give them some privacy. Just don’t leave a live mouse or rat with your snake unobserved and be prepared to move FAST because a rat can be attacking in seconds.

 Update on Diablo

Use forceps, like hemostats. If it does start attacking, try to get the ’stats inside its mouth and open it back up. Or use a very tiny cattle prod. :)

And you can just grab the thing. A ball python is not going to do too much damage even if it does strike you, and it is worth it if you are saving your BP in the meantime.

Yep, you can. You may get bit but that is better than letting your snake take the brunt of the attack.
