 Misting and Snakes belly

hey when i mist a tank, how much should i spray? everywhere? the sides, ground, plants, hiding spot, etc?

also my snakes belly in some parts aren’t completly smooth. is that normal? if he crawls across my hands theres some friction in some parts, but it looks clean at the bottom of my snake

The idea behind misting, as I understand it, is to get the ambient humidity up and not necessarily spray everything down. You need a hygrometer to determine how much and how often to mist. I shoot for 50-60% which requires me to mist our cages once or twice a day during the winter and I always try to leave a portion of the cage floor and inside the hides dry. If a snake is consistently resting on a wet surface you risk scale rot.

Regarding the rough scales; without a pic, you’re only going to get a bunch of speculation.
