wow, if convincing a parent, you might want to be accurate. An ave. female ball python, will grow 5-6 feet, and I have personaly held a seven foot individual. The ave. male will grow to be 3-4 feet, and I personaly own a 3’6" male bp. Some of the neonates (babies) can be nippy but harmless, and most will outgrow it over time. They can be one of the most docile snakes in captivity. The real benafit lies in care. They need no vit suplements, no suplemental lighting (uva uvb) and no special diets. Frozen thawed rodents is all your snake will ever need to eat. Anything with a mouth can bite, however most bp’s tend not to, given propper care this animal can live 40+ years. They have no venom, and do not consider humans a food source..they feed by heat and scent...most bites occur from feeding mistakes, use tongs and don’t handle after handling rodents, and you greatly reduce any risk of this happening, in the bit over a year, and being handled by three diff people one of whom is 3 years old, my snake has never stuck or bitten, more a statement of their general temperments than my skills. However..if you do allow the animal into your house...please remember that ball pythons don’t get names like "annie conda" "retic" or "little burm burm" and change color/length, if this should happen, I would suggest a very long talk with the snake owner (this last part is a joke for us herpers, we have strange senses of humor and tend to use latin alot).

I see that you are in Georgia. Do you live close enough to South Carolina to talk your mom in bringing you to Edisto Island this summer for vacation? Not only does Edisto have a great beach and camping it is also home to the Edisto Serpentarium which has loads of snakes and the people there are great when it comes to talking to people who either are afraid of snakes or just don’t like them. They have several balls on display and do five snake shows a day and one of the highlights of the snake is that guests get to hold a snake, which is typically a ball python. It doesn’t open until May 1 so you have some to talk you mom into going there.

ya n2t ure not verry acurate. first you have never held a 7foot ball python.. becuase the record is a little bigger then 6. and they dont get 6 feet. 5 feet is rare. 4.5 is about average. and your ages are wAYY off. ball pythons live around 20 years with good carring. 40 some thing years was the record...get your facts strait
