Bite Cat In a scenario like that, I’d be more worried of the snakes safety with cats in the house. It seems dogs are laid back and don’t seem to mind snakes, but in my personal experiences, cats seem to like using their claws and pawing the hell out of things. I’ve got a little 5 month old kitten, and whenever I’ve introduced her to my ball python, she always tries to paw and claw at the snake. I’ve learned that I don’t think they’re gonna become "friends" anytime soon, so they’ll just be kept apart when I have the snake out for handling. My dogs, however, let the snake crawl on them and snuggle up with them, lol. A few weeks ago, I had my bp out on my bed, and my dog Shayla(little lap dog...part jack russel, part yorkie-poo) was laying on the foot of my bed. The snake curled up between the dogs legs to use her as a warm hide, lol.But yeah, firstly I don’t think a 5 year old ball python would be big enough to look at a cat as a food source. Secondly, ball pythons won’t just eat anything furry. Unless your cat smells a lot like rodent, and is small enough to fit in the snakes belly, I don’t think you’ll have to worry about the snake harming your cats. I would worry about the cats harming the snake though. The easiest way to ensure this doesn’t happen though, is of course securing your snakes cage. There should never be the option of escape for a snake. You must secure the lid, whether it’s by weighing it down with bricks and heavy objects, or locking it down with latches and stuff.

Bite Cat I have had accidents with weighing down lids so I use latches or bungees and I don’t really trust the bungees/Pelota, your dog is way different from a couple of mine. I have one Spanish Cockrel girl (Watch the Lady and the Tramp if you haven’t) and she is murder on snakes. She is at least 12 because she came to my house in 1993 and she was full grown then. Anyway, if she comes across a wild snake she will, if I am not there to stop her, catch the snake in her mouth and shake it to death. Unfortunately for her, she has gotten old and slow. Year before last she got tagged by a cotton mouth and this past year she got tagged by, I think, a baby canebrake. I think this year it was a canebrake because a day or two before she got tagged, I found a baby canebrake in my yard that had not shed yet and where there is one that size there are more maybe as many as 20 or so but we didn’t see any more of them. I would have loved to have been there when they were born. I caught and kept the one I saw and what I would really really love to be able to do is find some of its siblings and compare them to overall size and health.

Bite Cat Reptiles and dogs/cats do not make good friends. Reptiles don’t have friends, ever, of any type, period. If a bp gets out and runs into a cat or dog, probably bad things will happen. If you pick a decent enclosure and are carefull there isn’t much chance of the bp getting out, I have yet to have any of my snakes escape. This isn’t really something to worry about if u are carefull.

Bite Cat There is a guy on kingsnake in the anaconda forum who has pictures of his yellow anaconda curled up with his cat (not curled around his cats neck). He knows his snakes very well and I would never recomend this but its kind of a cute picture. I really doubt your ball python would get out and eat your cats but if this is a concern of yours then I would probably not be getting a snake anyway before doing some more research.

Bite Cat Very cute I would imagine, however..when in that situation there is always the possability of an accedent, I saw one with a guys small dog and tegu or some such too..and once saw a rabbit and american aligator together as well....guess it’s the acceptions that make the rule sometimes.
