Sniffy sound My ball python, Brutus occasionally makes an audible breathing noise. He eats well, Im very picky about watching the temp and humidity in his tank. He is a very relaxed and friendly snake. He sometimes goes a week or more without making the ’sound’ but once in a while while breathing, he’ll start making this slight breathy noise when he breaths out. I was afraid he was developing a RI at first, but then there would be no sign of the breathing sound for days. He shed about three weeks ago, and it was a good all in one piece shed. Far as I can tell he is in pretty much perfect health. Is this a normal noise? Do other ball pythons do this? Is my snake just weird?

Sniffy sound It sounds like part of his shed around his nostrils was left during his shed.

Sniffy sound I hjave a snake that fooled me good and proper- took her to get a culture at the vets. All came out fine. I still hear this noise- but she makes it when she is stressed a little ( usually when handling since she dont enjoy it) I think that she is just breathing heavier.
But what I would do is open the snakes mouth and look for extra bubbles- you will see some in the back of the snakes mouth and thats normal. Look at thew slit where the tonge comes out and watch it open and close. Also- there is a section on the top part of themouth where the tonge slot rests. Check these areads for mucusy bubbles or signs of irritation.
Also- feel wheret he snakes lungs are ( 1/3 of the bodiyish) if you feel vibrations, congestion could be in there.

Sniffy sound I will check for the bubbles in the mouth and the lung thing when I get home tonight, as you suggested just to be safe. I dont -think- he’s sick, but Id much rather be on the safe side. He’s done this for months on and off, it just happens once in a while. But, he’s my ’baby’ so I get parinoid and fuss over him at the slightest thing. And glad to see Im not the only one who’s had a bp that’s done this, and it turned out to be nothing. Makes me feel a bit better. Thanks to everyone for the feedback.

Sniffy sound if it ever gets worse tho, or happens much morew frequent- or if you ever really want to- get a culture and see if anything is up with him.

Sniffy sound My snake dose that too and it happens every once in a while when he’s in his tank or while I’m holding him and it’s just like a little huff of air. I’ve taken him to the vet and he’s been fine. I’ve checked his temps and humidity and it’s not because of a stuck shed. He eats fine and otherwise looks healthy. From what I’ve read online it’s normal and unless it’s constant and there’s mucus then it’s fine.
