 Hot enough?

am i right in saying that if my b/p was cold he would go to the warm side of the tank?
my set up is a tad cooler than recommended but he seems to spend most of his time in the cool side. i don’t think this is a problem but if he was cold then he would warm himself up

you should prob get it hotter in there so he doesnt have to resort to needing to get warmer and will be already? Just a suggestion. I have a 100watt bask bulb on a timer for 10 hrs in the day, then a night bulb for night with a heat pad under the tank.

your setup advice is terrible jd (what size cage are you using). I would refrain from giving advice until you gain a few years experience. and broxi, it really depends on what you mean by "a tad."

Your temperature ranges sound fine for the warm side, but where are you taking the temperatures from? The temperatures should be measured from the level of the substrate inside the cage (I use a temperature probe and take multiple readings around the inside of the tank). This will give you a measure from the point of view of the snake because it lives on and just above the substrate. It may be that your hot side is hotter than you think. I’ve met a lot of people that have thermometers located on the glass on the outside of the tank, in areas well above the substrate and even the aquarium strip thermometers attached to the inside of the glass. These only measure the temperature of the glass and not the true temperature. But, if your temps are correct then they are well within the proper range. If your cool side was too cool, then the snake would spend all it’s time on the warm side. So, it can’t be too cool otherwise...

It is kind of hard to give you a straight answer based on the limited information given. What are the temperatures at the substrate level on the warm and cool side?
