Breeding You should have started cooling by now!! I have been breeding different morphs of Balls for a few years now. To me it is one of the harder snakes to breed, during the cooling period day time temps go to 85, while night time temps go to 75. I have a special room dedicated just to BPs with a custom climate control system that will maintain any temp that i want.. I also have a good friend who has a sonogram machine which lets us see when a snake is ovulating, and we can also see the eggs....as you can see it is not cheap...we have gone a little overboard but it all depends on what you want to do. You can find a lot of info about breeding BPs at google.com..........there is a lot to know. GOOD LUCK!!

Breeding
Actually, you can breed them at pretty well anytime by artificially creating the "cold season". Do a search for articles about breeding Balls and you should be able to find enough info. Here’s something I got off the internet last year. It will start you off:"Breeding Basics: Most captive-raised ball pythons are willing breeders. Breeding can be encouraged by allowing the nighttime temperatures to drop into the 70s in the fall. Pairs will often breed soon after this temperature drop. Copulation occurs over a period of several weeks. Females develop follicles, ovulate and lay eggs over the next three to four months. Clutch sizes range from three to 12 eggs, and average about seven. Eggs can be incubated by the female or artificially in an incubator. At 90 degrees Fahrenheit, eggs will hatch after about 55 days." The information is out there, you just have to do the research. And there are lots of people here who can fill in the holes for you. LOL Have Fun!

Tammy -- there’s just so much to tell you in order to cover everything about breeding Balls. I’ve done it successfully a couple of times but I could spend hours on the computer trying to tell you everything. If you don’t already have it, go to "copernic.com" and download their free search engine. It’s really powerful and actually uses all the other search engines in a search. Then just type in "Breeding Ball Pythons" and I guarantee you’ll get all the information that’s needed. You will have to read numerous articles to really get a good picture. Then you can ask other people in the forum to help clarify anything you don’t understand and to give additional help through their experience. Trust me, if you do the work yourself, you’ll learn the info and remember it better. On the copernic.com website look for the Copernic Basic -- that’s the free one and it’s pretty awesome. I use it almost exclusively to do all my searches.

Breeding 89-89.5 is nice 90 you get close to burning them and cooler you get close to birth defects so I like the more stable water.

Breeding U1sickboy -- I haven’t bred Balls for a few years but 89 seemed to be the optimum temperature and they all hatched between 57 and 62 days. The literature says 60 days at 89 degrees. You can successfully hatch them at lower temperatures (below 88) but it takes longer for them to hatch and if the temperature gets too low (say below 84-85) you risk the eggs not hatching or as Eunestes4 points out, deformities. If the brooding temperature is above 89-90 they will develop faster and hatch sooner (temps from 91 to 93), but you increase the risk of "cooking" the eggs and there is an even greater risk of deformities than brooding them at lower temps. Most breeders will agree that 89 degrees is the optimum temperature and there is no need to push them to develop faster at higher temps. It’s actually kind of interesting that our Colubrids are way more forgiving with their brooding temps and have such a wide range at which they will develop. It has to do with the unpredictability of the weather in our temperate environments.

Breeding Well....you can....but, you have to condition the pair first, especially the female who needs a reserve of body fat to safely and successfully produce and lay her eggs. And if you’re going to let her do the brooding, then conditioning is ABSOLUTELY necessary. Even breeders spend most of the year just conditioning their snakes for breeding and some of them will only breed them every other year to make sure they stay healthy and are able to continue to produce young for them.Unlike colubrids (Corns, Kings, etc.), which need a brumation ("hibernation") period lasting for 3 months, Balls only need a short period of time. With Ball Pythons you create the "cool" season by allowing the temperature to drop into the low 70’s during a 12 hour night cycle and then back up to the day temperature (85-90) for 12 hours. Do this for about 4 to 5 weeks and then you start to introduce the male.

Breeding Tammy, a company called Copernic has free shareware that is awesome if you’re looking for a really good search engine. If you go to Copernic.com and look for Copernic Basic, you can download that and I guarantee it will give you all kinds of sites to choose from which will have information on anything you want to know. Copernic takes and uses at least a dozen other search engines to find the info. So, when you do a search you are using multiple engines and not just one. Also, every time you open copernic to search, it updates all of the search engines. I can’t tell you enough about how good this engine is!!! AND IT’S FREE!

Breeding I didnt read everything but it looks like bandit had it all right on the money. You can breed ball pythons year around but you need to make sure the female is taking food year around and you have her heavily fed before breeding. You also should have a decent cooling temp for the male for a few weeks. So while it can be done, we all know adult ball pythons like to go off feed for the winter months so it is optimal to just use that time.
