The reason that she hissed at you was because when they are shedding they become very irritable. If you were in there shoes it would be like someone touching you hen you had wax paper over your eyes. The best thing to do is to not really mess with them for the 7-10 days when they are shedding. The only time you should remove them from the cage is to give them baths. Depending on where you live and the humidity you will see a huge difference if you start bathing them as soon as shedding signs set in. Remember the Snakes Eyes will clear up a few days before the snake actually sheds. You will see what i mean when it actually happens. What type of snake do you have and how old is it?

In addition to the above, even though snakes do not have the greatest eyesight, it is even more reduced when their eyes are opaque, making them a little more skittish of movements around them. It’s best just to leave them be during the shed.

And a "pool" of water for them to soak in saves you having to "bathe" them. Just make sure the bowl is large enough for the snake to get into, heavy enough not to get tipped over, and only enough water in it so that when the snake immerses itself the water doesn’t overflow.
