If it’s NOT between 6 and 12months, there is really no way to determine it’s sex as males do not start developing crests until 6-12months of age. So if it’s under 6months, i’d wait a bit and post new pictures. If it’s older than 6months or so, then female |

You could take it to a vet if you must know right away, but they might charge and or not even know yet themselves. Females CAN develope a "fin" down their back, but very small. Females also develope a head crest too, but usually not as big as males. But ya, stilltoo early to tell, but it looks in good shape =)! I have 2 Males around 1.5 years old, that are still growing. One has a fin 3-4 CM tall down his back, while the other has about 1 CM tall fin. It varies on how well you feed them and mainly genetics. |

It has to do with genetics again, how much light they are recieving and diet. I am assuming you are using regular UVB flourescents like ReptiGlo/ReptisSun etc and then a heating lamp? Natural sunlight helps (Not through a window), but actually taking them outside in a cage that has a mesh lid will help a lot If that is the case, than it could take years to get rid of all the brown, and even then it might not get rid of all of it. if you can’t afford pricey Metal Halides AND a big enclosure (5x5x5 feet or more), than it will take a while. **ONLY use Metal Halides in a big enclosure with a lot of live plants if you go that route. UVB flourescents dont even reach 5-7,000 Lux, while you want to shoot for 100,000 Lux (Normal Sunlight). So it’s not even close to natural sunlight, with the general Lizard UVB lights. I am looking into buying Metal Halides, which can get to that 100,000 Lux needed, but they are pricey. Anything between 20,000-100,000 Lux is ideal. |

However. If he is head-bobbing, you should either move him or the Ameiva away from one another as it is probably causing the Basilisk some stress. |
