 OT: Victor isn’t doing good

Some of you know that Victor (who was my late son’s leo) has not been eating. It’s been at least a month since he’s touched a worm or cricket. He has gone from 128 grams down to 108 (which is still big for a leo...but a big weight loss for Victor)

I took him to the vet on Saturday, but they couldn’t run a fecal...because since he’s not eating--he’s not pooping. He said to just keep an eye on him and try to get him to eat. NOTHING has been changed. Same temps, same substrate (tile), no new tank furniture...nothing. I can’t understand what’s wrong, and I am sick to death with worry. I can’t lose this leo, he means so much to me.

Can I ask my RZ family for some prayers? I normally wouldn’t ask, but I need help here. I have been getting up 2-4 times a night to check on him to make sure he’s still alive. I have seen the awesome power of prayer and good thoughts from all of you...I am going to ask for some myself. Thank you.

Hugs,
Denise

OMG!! Im so sorry, Victor is the best! I would give him the slurry formula, from Marcia at Golden Gate Geckos:
This recipe was developed to provide anorexic carnivorous and insectivorous geckos with life sustaining nutrition while they convalescing, and to help produce a stool for a veterinary fecal test. It is NOT medicine, and it will NOT cure anything.

In a blender, combine:

1 small can Hill’s A/D pet food (available at most vets)
¼ cup Ensure (not chocolate)
1 jar baby food squash or pumpkin
¼ cup Pedialite
*2 tabs or contents of 2 capsules milk thistle (herbal supplement, liver purifier, found at most drug stores).
*2 tabs or contents of 2 capsules of Acidophilus (GI system probiotic, found at most drug stores).
1 tsp. calcium powder w/Vitamin D3
1/2 tsp. herp vitamin powder
2-4 X-large handful of mealworms, added slowly while mixture is blending until it is about the consistency of a milkshake.

*optional ingredients

Puree all ingredients until completely smooth. Pour into ice cube tray(s) and freeze. Store cubes in zip-lock bag in the freezer until ready to use, then thaw out 1 cube at a time and store in fridge for 2-3 days. You can use the empty baby food jar for this purpose, washing it thoroughly after each use.

Using this mixture, draw a full 1ml dropper (eye dropper type) and place a drop on the gecko’s nose, being careful not to plug the nostrils. Be patient and do not force-feed! The gecko will lick it of its nose, and as it does, slowly squeeze out a little at a time. Most geckos love this food, and will lap it up.

It has worked great for many people, and I hope it gets Victor back on his feet. It should also allow him to poop, so you can get a fecal. Regardless of wether or not the ev t did a fecal test, should he treat him for paracites? Its and easy treatment, I would ask him about it or go to another rep vet.

Denise,
You know you have my prayers!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope he gets better, can’t they run bloodwork on him to see if there is anything wrong with his kidneys, or liver or something?
Anyway, my prayers are coming your way.................and lots of hugs too.

Please keep the prayers coming...and thanks everyone. I am taking him back Monday afternoon to see what else they can do. I am going to suggest blood work and possibly an x-ray/sonogram just to see if there is something going on inside. A friend of mine suggested maybe a vitamin B-12 injection? We’ll see how it goes. All I know is I will have a very stressful, worrysome weekend. He means so much to me.

Hugs,
Denise

OT: Victor isn’t doing good (update)

Well...either Victor or Vivian, his tankmate finally pooped, so I dropped off a fecal. The vet’s office just called a while ago and said that they have nematodes (whatever they are), and I have to take all the lizards that aren’t acting normal in on Monday to have them treated. They said that the common symptoms are anorexia, weight loss, gastritis, and intestinal obstruction (and death if not treated). I only hope that it’s not too late for them. My tremper is in bad shape now too...she lost close to 25 grams over the past month or two.....keep your fingers crossed, and thank you for your thoughts and prayers, please keep them coming!!! At least now we know what it is, so we can hopefully get them all treated and healthy again.

Hugs,
Denise
