OT: Alright friends.. I need help

Ok everyone.. I need help. I have 2 cats. Female Laya and male Saki. We have had Saki for 3 yrs and Laya since November. She is about a yr old and not spayed. Saki is. They are very friendly with eachother and I know Saki loves her. Well she has been acting VERY strange the past couple days. She will roam the house crying! I mean... for hours..just crying, moaning..talking! They are both inside cats and never been outside. I let the door open during the day..as I am home all day. Saki is pretty vocal too but thats when he is playing or about to go to sleep he will kinda make his noises...not purring. She looks almost sad or bored.. and I have never run into this issue before with a cat. I mena she even will be licking herself and starts making those noises and looks around like she lost a friend?? Or a play toy! I have all her play toys so they arent lost and she has not lost friend. I do know she really likes my beardie Scooter and sits at his tank all day long and stares at him. I thought it was him but I dont think it is. If anyone has ever encountered this please help me figure it out and help her stop crying! I cant handle it and I feel she is sad or maybe teething?? She is about a yr old now. Do they make noises when they are about to be in heat? Also, do female cats have their mentrual cycle like dogs and humans? If so when? I dont believe we will spay her..as we might breed her. Not sure though. They are both Highland Lynx cats..here is a pic of her and him. She is the white one. Thanks guys!!!

Get Her Fixed !!! Unless your a breeder, there is no reason to have a cat that is not fixed. There are far too many pets in shelters because owners haven’t gotten there animals fixed. Don’t take this the wrong way, I’m not lecturing you. I just have strong feelings because I get called to capture so many stray cats, and they usually end up getting put to sleep because you cant possibly adopt them all out. Besides, they are much happier not being so sexually frustrated.

Hahaha, stimulate her with a q-tip! Oh my gosh! I wouldnt be scared but I would be kinda grossed out! She might even like it and want more!

And to Coondog, trust me..she cant get pregnant she is always in the hous like I stated above..never been out and the male is neutured! Plus, if I did breed her.. trust me, her cats would not be homelss. These cats are worth over $500+! I wouldnt pay that kinda money and then let it stray! I just feel bad for her but if I did spay her.. I would feel horrible, cuz she is mature now and it might make her lazy. All the cats I have spayed and neutered have turned into blobs. I mean Saki was neutered in his young life like weeks old..so he doesnt even understand what she is going through! And he is crazy active! They are quite amazing cats for sure..never had one like this breed. But she is driving me and my hubby crazy and poor Saki doesnt know what to do with her! So, I will look into spaying her, if thats the route we take. Other than that.. I guess I will let her be. Oh and one more thing...do they have a period..like should I be looking for a mess here soon? Thanks again!

She is for sure in heat and yes the q tip does work, you can try it but I don’t recommend it cause you are not experienced at it, you just live with her for until she goes out of heat, but this is spring so she will just keep going in and out now...........so if she is over a year, and you want to bred her, then I would look for a male and do it, then she will for sure not be crying all the time, believe me had one of my own, breeder gave her to me with the stipulation that she got to breed her once, then I could have her free (she is a ragdoll), well when she went into her first heat breeder was on her honeymoon, we thought we would go nuts, rofl..........then she stopped, only to start back up again 3 weeks later, she went throught 4 heat cycles before the breeder decided she did not want to bred her after all, so I rushed her to my office and we spayed her first chance I got, rofl..........so you get to be brave enough to try the qtip trick, not recommened, I did not and I am a vet tech, but had never done it before, or you get to live with her like she is until you finally do bred her.............good luck, rofl.....and I mean that with a smile, having been there, but she is not in any pain or anything, just wants to bred, be very very careful with her at this time, even with you home they get desperate and she could very well decide to go out that door and find a honey to bred with, have seen it too many times, so close the door while she is in heat andddddddddddd have heard of stray male cats running right into the house to breeding them too, so be very very careful with her.
By the way she is beautiful.

If you are leaving the door open....I know she may not roam, but other cats WILL come in.... I suggest neutering her, it will make your life bearable. My partner’s parents had a cat that went into heat once every two weeks.... She got fixed at a year old, they couldn’t take it anymore. She is also an indoor cat and has been a joy to be around ever since.

You are right. With neutering/spaying there is a risk that a pet will become less active, but there are ways of controlling food intake to prevent them from becoming "blobs."

If you don’t intend on breeding, spay her! It’s that simple... even Bob Barker said it!

Actually they do bleed, you just never see it because it is such a small amount and they are always cleaning themselves, but I have seen it on a cat in heat cause she was on a white towel, rofl............but it is not usual that you would see any blood from them, but they do bleed. Sorry Lisa to contradict you, but most people don’t think they do bleed cause they never see it.........

OT: Alright friends.. I need help

Well good morning everyone! Thanks for all the replys! I have read up and let me tell you last night was the first offical night she let me know she was in heat! If I wouldnt have asked this question last night... I sure wouldve figured it out! She roamed the house ALL night and early this morning. Saki was right beside her trying to comfort her..he even started chimming in! I know he must feel for her. Last night she tried to get on him and he wasnt havin it! He turned around and kinda screamed at her like "dont violate me" He is a big sweetie! I never see him hurting her, so I feel good about them together. He helps her..he has been by her side and they have been chasing eachother around! She sure has been licking herself down there A LOT! So maybe she is bleedingand I cant see. Thats good they take care of it! LOL. I know dogs are totally different! Oh and by the door being open I meant I open the fornt door and there is a glass storm door! :) I would never leave a door door open they would sure want to explore and get out! She has been roaming some this morning making her cries and moans. I feel for her really! I have been talkin to my hubby and asked him if maybe there was a male lynx we could get her with just once. But it might take some time to find one in town. I dont know of many people that have this breed..I dont know of any! lol! If I cant get him to say yes..or find one then I will get her spayed asap! Dont worry guys..trust me...her crying is making it impossible and its only been a couple days and only one night! ahhhh! I wanted to pull my hair out! And I’m 8 1/2 months pregnant..trying to sleep!! Ugghh!

Well again thanks for the help! I didnt know they could go into heat that many times over and over! I have this to lok forward to?? I hope not!

Lauren~ :)

I know this has been gone over a few times, but i felt i needed to add something.

SOME female cats bleed, some do not.

The q-tip thing does work because it stimulates them to release an egg (basically they think they’ve been bred) so the heat ends.

They do cycle, with all cats it different. Both of mine are off 3 months, then on 2...1 wwek on i week off ect.

They WILL generally try to escape, and you will have male cats hanging around.

Your male cat may catch on, despite being neutered he still has the actual penis, just no spermies. This could help, or hurt depending on your POV.

In any case it is much safer for your cat to have it spayed. Less chance she’lll escape and get hurt, less chance you’ll end up with kittens who have no where to go, and less chance of her contracting any kitty STDs (which do exist.)

A side note: I did say my two are not spayed, this is not for lack of want, but for lack of funding. If i had $200 tro spare it’d be done... as it is i’m a student newly out of a job...They will both be spayed as soon as i can manage it. (just wanted to explain that i’m not really a hypocrite...lol) (also i did have the money when i got them, but due to unforseen circumstances...well *sighs* stupid life, eh?)

Anyways, good luck and i hope you learn to sleep through it. They get louder. lol

hi yoshi, i had a female siamese in high school, that went into heat about every 3 weeks in the spring and summer. my mom wanted to breed her, so we couldn’t get her fixed. she screamed all night long, until we saw one of the males holding her neck with his teeth, and basically just laying on top of her. the next time she started screaming again, we grabbed her by the scruff of the neck and held her for a little bit, and it kept her silent for awhile. some cats really dont bleed much when they are in heat, cause they do clean themselves, but other times they can. i had to throw away a nice white comforter cause of it... someone mentioned kitty std’s and they are very right, i lost my albino manx due to FLV which is basically kitty aids, so i would deffinitely reccomend being very careful about breeding. i dont know where you are, but here in washington, they have low cost spay neuter clinics, and sometimes paws will even help those who cant afford that.. maybe there are some places like that where you are... best of luck to you, and try to get some sleep, you wont get much soon, when the baby comes!! lol!!

What kind of cat is it?
I know i saw a cat similar with short ears on youtube, hahaha but i thought it was one of those
"cute japanese pets thing" that you’ll never see anywhere else!

But also i’ve seen somthing similar to what you are talking bout on youttube.
The talking can phenomenon.
This one cat would roam down there hallway talking, or appearing to be talking....

Hey fire4life.. thanks for the extra info. I know what you mean about the scruff of the neck. I have gotten to that point of grabbing her and she actually likes it.. she will just let me pick her up and kinda man handle her even though I’m a woman! lol! She is quite right now and its 1 am so thats a good sign. I can tell she is VERY tired. She sleeps through out the days and then gets up and meows for hours. Usually if I lay down she will too. She is really hot like running a fever which I’m sure is normal so I’m not worried. She is eating very well and drinking plenty of fluids. Skai the male has kinda given up. They have had their shots so I know they wont get eachother sick or get STD’s from this. I had a cat when I was younger too get luekiemia which is passed through their saliva and is like AIDS and it kills. The other cat got it cuz they always licked eachother and we had to put them down. It was sad..my mom did it. I was too young to do it. So.. I know what you mean about the STD’s. I def will get her spayed as soon as we have the extra money. I live in NC on the coast and I dont think there are clinics that will spay a 800 dollar cat for free! lol! They would look at me like wtf are you tlaking about.. you should have the money for this! If it were a stray..then maybe! But thats a different story! She has been doing really well tonight. She sleeps a good amount now. She wasnt too bad last night either. She is just bad when we are around moving..its weird. And she wants my attention..my rubs more than a cat..its kinda weird! But I havent doent the q-tip thing cuz she might like it and bother me more! lol. Anyways.. I’ll let her sleep and try not to wake her cuz when I do she wont shut up!! haha. Thanks again!

Lauren~
