OT - I promised myself I wouldn’t become a leopard gecko addict... too late!

Sorry for all my posts lately! But this is big!

Yesterday I went in to a petco in a neighboring town to get some mealworms...
I saw the cuuuutest baby Patternless leopard gecko. The poor thing was tiny and was in a freezing cold cage with about 15 other geckos, and they were all on sopping wet calci-sand. I felt so bad for it! And the geckos were on sale for $20.

Well, today I picked it up from the pet store! He is so small, only 3 grams!!

I really hope he pulls through. He doesn’t seem too unhealthy or anything, he just needs a good fattening up, but it’s just his small size that I am worried about. Not to mention the fact that he was on sand!
So now he is in my room in his own little strilite shoebox with lots of mealworms all for him~

Alright alright, Picture time! Here he is!! enjoy!

He/she is so cute!! I know what you mean. I work at Petco and "corprate" will not let us change their enclosures. It ticks me off!! I let my customers know the CORRECT way of owning a gecko......absolutely NO SAND!! Trust me I have alot of happy customers come back and tell me how well their leos are doing. We get them so young. I try to give ours a few wax worms a week just to get some weight on them. Anyway sorry I hijacked your post. best of luck with him/her.

thanks guys! And fluff, glad to hear you are actually doing something about it...

The thing is, I don’t think "corporate" says anything about SOAKED, freezing cold sand!

I hear ya. The temps. in almost all the reptile enclosures are way too low. It get me crazy!!! But yes I do try to educate the correct way of owning a leopard gecko, bd, cornsnake, bp or anything else that I feel confident with the care instructions. We are also fortunate enough to have a reptile expert working at our store. He is like me and gets totally aggrivated with the enclosures. He knows ALOT about reptiles. Which is actually nice to have someone who knows what they are talking about. Ok enough babbling. Good luck with him/her

Most pet stores will keep their temps low so the reptile is docile so when people want to see them, they do not try to bite because they are not warmed up. It is an illusion for the customers.
Very nice, I just picked up a patternless from our local Petco. My nephews girlfriend works there and she brought her home for me.
