 MEET MY NEW BABY!!!!! lol

Ok, so I got a rescue today. She is beautiful. She comes from a pet store that went out of business. She had been housed with a male all her life. Four months ago the male died. The people that gave her to me said she is very mean now. Always biting....when they hold her, they have to hold her head so she won’t turn around and bite them. I have held her before while at the pet store, and she used to be a sweet sweet thing.

They were told to feed them every six to eight weeks. I’m wondering if she is just hungry. IDK Anyway, for now I’ve got her in the tank she came in with some cypruss mulch and a moist hide.....a water bowl and for whatever reason, a towel. lol I will make her a dry hide. lol

I remember holding her last July at a pet store and just totally fell in love with her and the male. Very very sweet.....I’m hoping I can get her to where she needs to be. ***phew*** I am so excited to have her. I just wanna do right by her.

Ok......I am naming her Uma, which means Goddes of Power (parvati) in Hindu.

My new Brazilian Rainbow Boa:

Her eye is messed up. Don’t know what’s going on there. Will be taking her in to the vet in a few days.

Any advise.....help, anything.....just holler. lol And, how to clean that glass. We wiped and wiped...it looks like it wipes off, but then it dries like that all foggy. Any ideas????

A UTH on the left.....A red bulb on the right top for it was only getting to high 60s on that side.

Will try and feed her some tonight and see what happens.

She’s got little bits of stuck shed throughout her body.

IDK what else. lol ***PHEW***

Hey Edel.. Good luck with your new rescue! She is beautiful. Can’t wait to see her shed a couple times!

But the setup you have her in will not hold the right humidity, especially not with lights. Is it temporary?

Hey Kay,

This is all I had for now. Help me out on what I need to do to make it right. I found out I was getting her yesterday, and she was just dropped off to me. Got her a humid hide which she had never had. She and the male have been in that tank for ten years. How did they make it work at that pet store? lol

Thats just tons of stuck sheds over her eye. Check if she is blind by taking a flashlight and seeing if her eye dialates or not. I’m pretty sure that snakes eyes dialate by themselves.

The tank is calcium buildup. Try using limeaway and then rinse it well with filtered water.

Looks like she is a little dehydrated but should bounce back.

For the hard water / calcium buid up vinegar is safer and does the job too. I use it in my coffee pot and other areas where hard water builds up. Shower / doors etc. Even chrome bumpers.

The humidity can be increased and will be fine ...especially with the use of humid hides and the cypress mulch and misting.... keep the substrate moist .... and if you have too you can place a damp towel over the screen, until you get the new light mounted inside ... I sent you a link and picture of the porcelain ceiling mount ...once that is in you can determine the temps and monitor them and of course use the dimmer for it and the UTH’s

I am so jealous ,and saddened by the fact that the male has died needlessly.... what a horrible shame.

I was reading about eyecaps and stuck shed ... with constant moisture and baths and very very gentle persuasion the eyecap should be able to come off and the new cap revealed ... ask your vet if she has recommends ...or if saline eye drops and shed ease might help.

Again the mention of mineral oil has come up numerous times....

 MEET MY NEW BABY!!!!! lol

Thanks Guys!!!

I gave her a small bath last night, and with a damp towel wiped over the eye gently.

I was quite nervous, since I was told she was a biter, but she hasn’t struck at me at all.

She ate two small rats after her bath. I was told originally that she was a very agressive eater. She was in fact so gentle and slow (eating f/t) I thought she might be hurt.

I have been able to reach into the tank without her striking at me. She is a strong girl, and even though she’s a bit skinny, she still has a lot of strength. I think she’s gonna be ok. ***sigh***

CP.....I think you were right. After looking at her a bit closer last night, I can see some of that white on her face did go away. Although, she looks a lot slicker and less chalky.....she really needed that humidity.

She LOVES her humid hide!!!!!

Edel she’s gorgeous! Lol I’m such a sucker for Rainbows, can’t wait to have one. She’ll look much better after a couple sheds and some good meals, I’m sure.

Good luck with her! Post lots of pics : )

One thing that helps sometimes when they are having a really bad shed is to soak them in some warm water and then put them in a damp pillow case. This helps them rub of the sheddings, I have done it several times when mine are having a particularly bad shed.
For the eye caps, some people recoment to very gently put a piece of scotch tap over the cap and carefully peel it off. It works sometimes.

Good luck, and she is a beauty,
Helen
