 Fan in incubator?

Lost story shot, got a new $100 incubator and it came with a built in fan. After reading up on the box it says reptile eggs should not have wind/air getting to them. Is this true, was it a waste or can we still use the new inc?
We do dragon eggs, leo eggs, and more.

How many of you use one with a fan and still have eggs hatch?

Thanks
Amanda

 Fan in incubator?

Yes, thats correct, you shouldn’t use the incubators with fans....

 Fan in incubator?

Wow, well that’s a bummer, now what do we do?!

Would it work even if the eggs are in little Rubbermaid plastic bowls with tiny holes in the side, where the fan really couldn’t hit them, just wondering because I really don’t want to rip the fan out a new $100 incubator lol..

And how long does it take your eggs to hatch at that temp?

 Fan in incubator?

In all honestly, I am just going by what I was told. I was told not to get an incubator with a fan but then I read that it’s fine as long as the eggs are in the plastic containers with alot of humidity. All I know is I didn’t want to take the chance in harming the babies in any way so I didn’t use one. Maybe someone who has used one will hopefully come along and let you know...

My first clutch of eggs I incubated at 87 degrees b/c I was hoping for more girls and I was told to keep the temps a little higher, which actually worked, out of 23 babies, only 5 were boys. The second clutch I incubated at 83 degrees, and out of 23 more babies I have 9 boys....Roughly took just about 2 months of incubation :)

Good luck,

Nancy

 Fan in incubator?

The fans in the incubators are used primarily for bird eggs.... Reptile eggs need to be moist and humid .
Imagine how they are layed in the wild , usually a damp moist warm substrate. , whereas fowl tend to be dry with good circulation.
The fan tends to dry the air and reduce humidity.......not a good thing for reptile eggs.

Can you disable the fan without destroying it? Cut the wires to the fan and add a switch. ?? Then you can turn it off as you wish. Or you can add a dish of water off to the side, in addition to your deli cups of moist vermiculite and eggs. Check the humidty often and replenish the water in the side dish.

 Fan in incubator?

I have hatched all of my babies in hovabators with fans before I got my incubator from Nature’s spirit. I liked the fan model hovabators but I did have plastic containers with airholes and used the trays below for water and humidity. Take care Beth
