Help! Dragon bit tip of syringe

Hi, I am force feeding my dragon from a syringe medication and critical care. She bit the tip of the syringe off and I can’t find it on the floor. I think she swallowed it. I just gave her a good soak. What should I do. Her vet won’t be in until Tuesday!! ??? Thanks

Josh

If it is small enough it may just pass without difficulty.

Josh,

I was just wondering how it was going for you........He will just pass the tip of the syringe. Don’t worry.

How is she doing?

Hi Edel! Thanks. I am worried about her. Her scales are still falling off and her skin looks kinda bad. She ate 3 crickets today!! yayyyy! She stopped drinking so I am still soaking her in her tub. She won’t drink in there either. I really think she has an upper respritory condition. She opens her mouth and takes deep breaths. The vet said it didn’t look like she had one because she is not bubbling from the nose but inside her ears look funny to me. Just praying every day that she gets thru this. I try to make her tank hotter but she doesn’t like it really hot and will move to the middle. Still giving her milk thistle mixed with that oil to try to make those fatty pads melt. How is your beardie family Edel? Are you still working hard?

Josh

Dang it Josh,

I’m worried about her too. I would stop giving her the oils. I don’t know that the fatty pads are supposed to melt away. I mean, if they are there for the eggs to develop, is it a good idea to try and stop that? I don’t know, just my thinking. It kind of made sense at first, but why is it that other dragons are not having issues with that. And really, the issue was the falling scales and not the fatty pads, right? IDK

Can you get ahold of another vet? If she is opening and closing her mouth like that, it is a very good possibility she may have a respiratory infection, even if there is no gooky stuff coming out. It only starts coming out and bubbling when it’s gotten worse.

We need to figure out why her scales are falling off.

Get some acydophilus from any pharmacy or health food store. they have it in liquid form and fruity tasty....I heard the strawberry flavor is the best. lol This will help her if her belly is not feeling good. It helps re-establish the gut flora and it may help her get to the point that she wants to eat again. Give it a try.....it won’t hurt her at all.

I’m keeping up my praying for her so that she pull through this quickly.

Keep us posted.

Edel

PS.....My beardie family is fine. Half of them are brumating, so it doesn’t seem so hectic and it helps on the veggie bills. LOL

Hi Edel. My mom said the same thing!! Not going to give her anymore of the oil. The reason why we took her is because of the scales and the vet thinks her biggest problem is the fat that’s pushing up on something making it hard for her to breath. She didn’t pass the syringe tip yet. She is very wide and has big fat pads. I know it’s because I fed her too many waxworms. That’s all she would eat at one time so I thought she needs to eat so I gave them to her. I just took her out of her tub and when I put her back in the tank, she was panting and it was not because she was hot. Her skin is looking worse everyday. I am going to look for another vet today. It’s hard when my mom just paid over 300.00 for her last visit and I am going to have to ask her for more money. I had a part time job after school but that one is over. She ate one cricket this morning and in her tub she drank water. Her eyes look dreary, I can tell she doesn’t feel good plus she closes one eye most of the time. I put a warm cotton swab on it. I’ll get her the acydoph stuff you was saying and see what that does. She didn’t come out of her brumation well. Thanks for the prayers. I am feeling really bad now that I wasn’t a good dad for her. I’ll let you know what the vet says or if I can find another one. the one that I have is on the list and it’s called Avian exotics.

Josh,

Do not feel that you have not been doing good by her. She is very lucky to have you and she and the rest of us know that you have been doing the very best for her. A lot of us make mistakes when we first get started. I really don’t think the supers did this.....

You said the vet thinks something is pushing to obstruct her breathing because she is fat? Well, she hasn’t been eating lately, so she should have lost some weight already. I’m thinking she might be bloated because of some other reason. And the bloating or her being over weight would not make the scales fall off.
