 PetSmart! Ugh!

Can I just say PLEASE ppl if you are new on here do NOT listen to the little nerds at PetSmart!
I had a little know-it-all of a guy today tell me they were out of small crickets, but go ahead and feed my 7inch baby beardie 3 of their "large" crickets which are about an inch to an inch and a half which (thank GOD) I have done my research and have better common sense....as I was leaving he asked me " Do you trust me now that I’ve explained how I have 5 beardies ?" I smiled politely said No and walked away. Where do they GET these ppl?!...sorry, just venting

i know what you mean lol. They told me to get sand for her substrate. Then a girl came in and the salesperson said...ask her, she has a lot of beardies. She told me to get the sand and then she continued to talk to the saleperson saying that one of her dragons was paralized in the two back legs. smh. I never listen to them

The best info is here or at beautifuldragons.com. You are all right! I would never trust what a pet store told me to do with my beardie or any other reptile!

I have tile in all my dragons’ cages. It is much easier to clean. I use a wipe & moist paper towel. With 7 dragons, each in their own tank/condo, it makes cleaning a breeze.

I always wondered about the tiles. Your beardie doesn’t slide on the tiles with the long nails?

Its really sad to read all this! How many pets suffer at the hands of their owners because of bad advice!?! I had to give the petstore advice on the beardies they sold the other day. At least they listened and was thankful for the help. Very sad.....

Joshua,

I try to use the rougher tile in their tanks. Just make sure they are sealed ceramic tiles. It doesn’t matter if the bottom is sealed, just the top. You can also use slate. I also make sure that I put some bricks or rough rocks in their tanks for them to climb on. It helps to wear down their nails.

LOL Well, you DEFINITELY have your hands full!
My son(7 about to be 8 w/ aspergers) is the reptile lover and now wants a corn snake and an alligator. Yes, he wants something that can potential eat him(good thing there is a ban on them here).
As far as the corn snake, he’ll have to wait til he gets older and can properly care for it himself. I am not afraid of snakes or opposed to having them at all especially one that small, but it’s the mice and rats I cannot handle(even if they’re frozen)! :(
