If you’re getting a baby then keep it on paper towels. Any type of loose or particle substrate should be avoided with babies. I recommend paper for their entire life though. All of mine are kept on newspaper.

I used Walnut shells for a while, my recommendations..don’t use them! my beardie didn’t like them very much AND she had trouble just eating crickets when i fed her. If you are getting a baby, try and use newspaper or paper towel. That didn’t work with mine because she would slide around. If thats so, i would use wheat bran

Don’t use wheat bran for a baby. Babies should be kept on something solid. If they slide on paper try shelf liner or nothing at all.

Yes, use something solid for a baby. I also use newspaper for my dragons and it works just fine and they dont slide around! And wheat bran wont work for babies because you have to mist them and you cannot get wheat bran wet! I use paper towels for babies and newspaper for adults. You can use newspaper, paper towels, shelf liner, or no substrate.

Everyone I’ve read about who uses that Duck Easy Liner seems to like it a lot, I’m thinking about switching to it when I run out of alfalfa pellets.

I agree with the paper towel or news paper for babies....but I(in my opinion) keep new beardies of any size/age on paper towel or news paper for a quaranten period and make sure stool samples come back clean first..I believe most here do the same.

After that(quaranteen...or big enough) I use wheat bran, and I get it at a local feed store as it is cheaper than a health food store.

I use shelf liner and paper towels for all mine. They had a container with pellets in it and ignored it all together so I removed it. The new tank we are getting ready to put Cajun & Creole in already has new shelf liner cut to fit. It’s very easy to clean and no risk at all.
