 Baby beardie on ebay

OMG, this made me so mad when I saw it.

Beardie on EBAY

I had no idea there were people like that out there who own a beardie while knowing absolutely nothing about it! The deion of it says "This item is one live baby bearded dragon. It comes with a cage, a water bowl, a heat lamp to imitate its natural desert environment, and a log structure that it can climb on, sleep in, whatever. The dragon is approximately eight months old. It eats live medium sized crickets, and only needs about ten a week. When it’s fully grown, it will be approximately a foot long, not including its tail. " <----- First of all, there’s no mention of a UVB whatsoever. Second, only 10 crickets a week?!?!?!? Is this person insane? I just can’t believe that this person had a beardie that long and the poor little thing is still alive. This baby need some serious help!

I sent the seller a nasty e-mail regarding his lack of knowledge regarding beardie husbandry. I hope it dosen’t affect my e-bay status, but it needed to be done.

Lol, thanks Randy! I wanted to do that myself, but haven’t had a second to do so yet. I doubt he’ll care, but at least he’ll know he’s an idiot. I hope someone that lives near him in CA rescues that beardie and gives him a good home. I would if I lived out there... Poor little thing

Animals are not supposed to be sold on EBay. Hopefully EBay will notice it and remove it. I don’t know how to report them to EBay, so if any of you do, please do so!

I’m kind of torn between your replies there... I guess in the long run it’d be better for that poor little dragon if someone bought it from the guy though.

His reply to my e-mail:

"Thank You SaltyDog88"

He either dosen’t care or was being sarcastic. I didn’t think you could sell live animals on e-bay, but there are lots of listings for live mealworms, waxworms, crickets, butterworms. I will report him after the beardie is sold, so he can’t do it again. If, there is an e-bay rule against live animals.

Yes there is a rule like that on Ebay. Unfortunately though, you can’t guarantee it will find a better home, you can only hope. I’m tempted to email them too, but it won’t do any good.

What an @$$! I seriously wish there was some type of test you had to pass on husbandry before you could buy an animal. Some people just have no clue, then there are those who know they’re doing something wrong but don’t think anything bad will happen to their poor animal. I feel so bad for this little beardie. It really amazes me that he spent so much time is this guy’s "care" and is still living. This little beardie really needs a reptiholic’s help.

if i had the space i would so buy him. unfortunatley i can’t buy another till after i move. Then i have a choice, i can either take the big room as my own (which i like bigger rooms) or i can take the smaller one and turn the bigger one into a reptile room, and asa long as i have the means to feed them all im allowed to fill it with beardies. i think half of it will be rescuses like from this idiot.

Well, Kev, the description on eBay says it comes with a cage. Who knows how big it is though, I’m sure it’s not the right size for an 8 month old beardie... Oh, and BTW, you might be a godparent sooner than you think, but that’s all I’ll say for now...

OMG thats terrible, only 10 crix a week!!! If I lived anywhere near Cali I’d adopt that poor beardy. I’m new with beardies and all but I do have a CWD and GB for along time and I’m capable of handling a beardy. I’m gonna have to order baby Drakes UVB bulb tomorrow. I’ve only had him since Monday night so he’ll be okay, but that poor poor beardy won’t. I’d also wish that they would have somesort of test to give out to people to make sure they know what they’re doing and to stop kids like 8 yr olds and younger from buying herps just for the spree of the moment, anywayz I’m rambling on...

Of course he didn’t reply to my email, and the auction is still up.

I did get to thinking, don’t some people strictly feed their dragons on pellets and greens? Are we over-reacting by any chance?

I dont feed my dragon pellets, but that doesn’t mean I couldn’t. I’m just thinking that maybe this person feeds pellets.?? I’m trying to be optimistic!

He also has 2 feedbacks, one is negative so it wipes out his positive and makes his feedback look like 0.

I don’t want to go look- too stressful. Some people do feed their dragons only pellets. RepCal pellets are actually supposed to be nutritionally complete, but still... if you can feed them live prey, I’m sure it’s got to be better for them.
Somebody buy him and take proper care of him!!! I would, but I’ve got my hands full.

Well, if this clown does feed pellets or veggies, he really shoould have listed that. If he had, he wouldn’t have everyone who read this post jumping all over him. I hope for the poor beardie’s sake that it does get fed SOMETHING besides 10 crickets a week! I really wish I lived in CA, I’d definitely go get the poor thing... Oh, Kevin & Joan(2) - the godparents, I am getting a beardie sometime this month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
