Experienced owners - need your opinons...

Hello-

I have not been on in a while, but I have some questions about our little guy. We got him last September and he is probably around 7 months old now. He has always ate well, crickets, silkies and a variety of greens...his crickets/silkies always dusted with calcium powder and he is in a 40 gallon breeder tank. He has a florescent light, plus a Heat/UVB bulb in his tank. His basking temps are usually around 15-110 right under the light.

Lately he slowed down on his eating, but was still eating some protien plus a little greens... now he is darn near eating nothing. I have read that after they go through a growth spurt such as his (he was 5" when we got him and now he’s 18"), they sometimes will slow down their eating or not eat for a short period... I don’t know if this is the case or not with him?? I have talked with my vet who treats all types of exotic animals and they suggested that I first make sure that my temps were right because if they are not warm enough they won’t eat... I am trying to add a small additional amount of heat (I sure don’t want to overheat him) to see if that helps.... Does any of the experience breeders or folks that know alot about these guys have any insight on this?

I don’t want him to die - I feel like we made it through the hard part of raising him from such a small baby, now I don’t know what to do

Thanks!

Your basking spot temp. is from 15-110?? I dont know if you miss typed or something on that but I hope its not 15*. The basking spot should be from 100-115 and the cool side should be from 75-85.
How long has he been not eating for? I’m thinking it might be just your temps.
Let us know what happens!

Steven

Since you have spoken to the vet, I assume you have had a fecal done? If not, that would be a good thing to do - rule out the possibility of parasites.

I think the temps sound fine, I don’t know what could be the problem. He sounds too young to brumate but maybe that’s a possibility? My dragon did it this year, but he is older than 7 months.
