 Female beardie, Help please!

Could you please tell me what substrate I would use for her to lay her eggs in. Where I live the pet store employee’s aren’t helpful at all. I’m hoping someone could tell me pretty much everything I need to know so I may have a healthy clutch of eggs. Also, My male beardie bit the back of the neck off my female they are seperated but is this common or do I need to always keep them apart? I don’t want him to hurt her again.

how old is she?
you need to get some playsand and chemical free potting soil, and mist it with water until it sticks together enough for her to dig a hole without it caving in on her. before she lays, you need an incubator. you can get these online, or for more money at a petstore. read the directions and set up the incubator (sorry i cant help with this part, i dont know much about incubators yet). make sure not to move the eggs around a lot when you are moving them. it is normal behavior for the male to bite the female. you should keep them apart to reduce stress. from one mating, a female dragon can lay a clutch of eggs once a month anywhere from 4-12 months afterwards.

You really need to do some reading before you put them back together. Google search bearded dragon breeding and read everything you can. Biting the neck is normal breeding behavior, it does get kind of violent but as long as no blood is drawn everything is ok. I use plain old potting soil (unfertilized) in my lay box, make sure it’s moist but not dripping wet. You’re also going to need an incubator and several baby tanks set up for when they hatch and a good supplier of crickets. They can lay several clutches off of one breeding, so make sure you really want to do this before you go through with it, costs can run into the thousands and you’ll never make it back just breeding one or two females, not to mention the time involved feeding 3 to 5 times a day. It sounds like they are sexually mature so they can never live together again, the only time they should be placed together is for mating and then separated afterwards. After you read up on it and have more specific/informed questions feel free to ask.

If you need an Incubator, the pet stores here in Nevada do not carry them. I got mine at a feed store. A lot cheaper than getting them on the internet. And yes it is normal for him to really bite her. It looks like he wants to kill her! Kinda scarry.....
