 New baby

This morning we found a surprise in the incubator. My first baby has hatched. His ambiotic sac fell off around 3 to 4 hours ago. When should he start to be active and when should I first feed and water him. His tank temperature is good and he is breathing well but all he does is sleep.

LOL, that’s about all they do for the first 24 hours or so. it takes a lot of energy to hatch and they are usually tired afterwards, some even take a nap in the middle of it. what do you mean his sack fell off? that’s not normal, they should absorb it. be sure to keep them in the incubator, in a separate container than the eggs and on damp paper towels for the first 24 hours before you transfer them into anything that the sack may get snagged on. Congrats

they really depend on that for living that first few days until they start eating. your best chance is going to be that you’re going to have to force feed it. what i would do is take some repcal pellet and grind it up into a powder and then mix some pedialite in with it to make a soupy consistancy. suck that up in a syrenge (no needle) and then start off by trying a drop on the nose and see if it licks it off. If it still won’t do it by tomorrow or so try prying a little taste in between the lips and see if that helps. Normally beardies won’t eat anything for the first few days but this one is going to need to before then so whatever you can do to get it going will up it’s chances a lot. Good luck.

Thank you so much for responding. This was my fault. He was a surprise we were ready to throw away dead eggs and noticed him running around we paniced thinking he had been there for days and removed him. I have all the force feeding material having raised a 5 day old baby who did not eat well. I am afraid of hurting the new baby because he is so small but I will try anything to get him to survive since this is the first baby that I have ever successfully hatched. This is our 1st pregnant females 2nd clutch the first ones did not make it. THanks again for the advice. I will be sure to keep the other in the incubator untill they absorb thier sac.
