HELP with hatchling!!
| I have one baby who has popped its head out of the egg. The baby is still alive but has not made any progress since early this morning when his head came out. The egg seems very dry almost like it is hardening and I am araid the baby won’t be able to get out. When we moistened the vermiculite aroud the egg it moved slightly, but looked like the work was too hard for it. Any suggestions on getting this baby to come out or at least make it easier for him. Would it be bad to mist the actual shell to soften it? Any suggestion or help would be greatly appreciated. |

| He’ll probably come out on his own, but if you want to give him a hand here’s what you can do. Where he poked his head out the egg will be torn in several spots, you can grab one of the flaps and tear it down just a little, be careful not to split the whole thing open you just want to make the opening a little bigger to make it easier. It’s not too uncomon for them to take this long, but i have had them die in the egg at this stage also so the tearing thing gives them a hand without too much risk. Whatever you do, don’t remove the baby from the egg, they must come out on there own when they are ready. Sean

HELP with hatchling!!
| This is actually exactly what we did at about midnight. We were a little to nervous to let it be and had not yet had a response. We made a judgement call and helped him out a little. He immediately got out of the egg when we opened it a little more. He definetly would have died if we had not done this because we actually had to get a pair of small scissors and cut some shell because it was immpossible to rip. Also a piece of the shell was stuck to the bottom of the baby’s mouth which made it impossible for him to move his head. I saw a previous message in the breeding forum of another person who helped a baby hatch and was successful. I definitely agree that they should never be pulled from the shell; however, I have seen people say on this forum that for absolutely no circumstances should you help a baby out. After helping this baby I do think their are definetly circumstances where helping is neccessary and hope other will read this post and realize that sometimes you can save a life by helping. Anyways thanks for the response heartmountain your advice has been useful and I apreciate the help. |

HELP with hatchling!!
| The baby we helped out of the egg is doing very well. It is actually one of the healthier dragons in the 14 that hatched. |
