 Rack systems help

Ok I am making rack systems for my bearded dragons and leopard geckos. I already have a guide to making leo rack systems and now i need one for bearded dragons. I plan on breeding my beardies and already have a hatchling rack design, but just need a good design for the adults. So far i have one rack system that looks ok for them but am not sure here are the dimensions for the tanks that the beardies would be in 19 7/8" X 39" X 6 1/4" high. What do you guys think, would that be good for my beardies? if not just post your rack systems info(or links to good ones also work)

The length and depth seems ok but a 40 gallon breeder is 16- 18 inches high I believe. I really think it should be at least 3 times higher. Good luck, Beth

I have a rack system (kinda). It is a large cage with three layers and 3 adult cages on each layer. Here’s a pic of it.

The middle cages measure 3’ L. 2’ W. and 20" T. The outside cages measure 30" L. 24" W. and 20" T. BTW the melamine between the layers just covers the lights. The whole thing is about 8’ Tall.

Thanks for the compliments. My dad and I built the cage together. It took about a month.

Yeah, Mariokartjoey- Dillon and his Dad has made a beautiful enclosure. They are very talented with it. Did you decide to make yours taller? Beth

Im not really sure yet, i think im gonna go with that and see how it looks. if i think it should be higher i can always make a new one for them and raise the juvies, and sub adults in those ones. But im most likely sticking with them for now.

I really don’t think 6 1/4 inches high is tall enough. But thats just my opinion. Beth

I think it is, i mean they really don’t need tons of hieght. Theres actualy really no reason for it if they can climb on branches, wood etc. in the tank. Personaly i think that those tank measurments are just about as perfect as they nede to be.

I agree, 6 1/4 inches is no where near high enough. The 20x39 is fine but you need at least 18" of height to allow for basking bulbs/areas which you’re never going to fit into a 6 1/4" space and be able to provide a proper temp gradient. When I have my racks set up the adult ones look a lot like Dillon’s with the exception that the individual cages are on a skeleton 2/4 framework (doesn’t look as nice as his but I’m more for plain functional not necessarilly pretty). Now your leos could get away with 6" just fine since they’re nocturnal and can use belly heat (flexwatt) with a flourescent strip to provide whatever light you want for them.

Mariokartjoey-I am not at all as talented as yourself or Dillon or anyone who builds their own enclosures. Mine are premade, store bought and paid for, lol. I am sure someone can help you. But remember about the basking area. It can be hard to control temps effectively without some height as Sean said. Take care Beth
