Extremely frantic!!!! Dixie is being rerally frantic, she will never sit still. When in her cage, she wants to get out and climbs all over the walls. She even digs sometimes... Im thinking she just might be pregnant, but she isnt fat at all, and I cant feel any eggs. But just so I am ready for eggs, what kind of incubator would I need? Thank you so much for helping!!

Extremely frantic!!!! They get this way when laying time gets close (if she is gravid). Sometimes eggs can be hard to feel, try picking her up by the base of her tail so she flattens out her belly and look for lumps. If you see any, she’s gravid and due soon. First thing she’ll need is a lay bin, basically I use the BIG rubbermaids and pile moist dirt on one side on a slope about 10" deep. Point a light at the pile to warm it up and keep spraying it down as it dries out (about once a day) until she lays (could be within minutes, could be several days). You also need to get a still air chicken incubator (hovabators work well) NOW and get it set up, it’ll take a day or 2 to stabalize the temp in it. Don’t trust the thermometer that comes with it, get yourself a cheap little $10 digital from walmart (i like the ones with the outdoor probe wire and i put it in directly with the eggs). You’ll also need some plastic sandwich containers (drill about 6 holes in the lid) and either vermiculite or perlite to go in them. You can get all of this at walmart except the incubator, for that head for a feed store or order one online. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Good luck.Sean

Extremely frantic!!!! If she just laid a clutch about 3 weeks ago it would be just about right to lay again. I’d keep an eye on her. Poor lighting has many other effects but not usually this one. They may be infertile or soft and that’s why you can’t see them, without being able to metabolize calcium (no uvb) it’s hard to form eggs properly.Sean

Extremely frantic!!!! oh my.... I may know now what’s wrong. You see, Larry and Dixie are in seperate cages, and Dixie’s is smaller. The new heat lamp we got, one that isnt bright, is very powerful and extremely hot. We have it on all day and all night, and since her cage is a little smaller than Larry’s, she may be freaking out by condensed heat. I turned the heat lamp off and have had it off for a few hours, and now she’s calmed down, and is leaning on her log. Should I keep the heat lamp on for just night time? Its also summertime and gets quite hot.

Extremely frantic!!!! Check your temp gradiant with an accurate thermometer, it should be 110 basking and 85 cool. Raise/lower your light, or get a different bulb to achieve this. Beardies need no heat at night (usually), they can fall into the 60’s while they’re sleeping just fine. If you’re room gets cooler than that use a CHE (ceramic heat emitter) instead of a light, they really need the dark time to sleep and having lights on 24/7 will just stress them out.Sean

Extremely frantic!!!! (obviouslyy I cant drive)LOL, couldn’t tell it from your posts. Anyway ya head over to walmart and in the hardware section they’ll have indoor/outdoor thermometers for about $10 or so. I like these ones because you can put the outdoor probe on the basking spot and the base on the cool end and get both reading at once (handy little things). Sean
