Question about eggs We have 9 eggs. All are pretty white and leathery in appearance, well rounded. They were laid on 7-23-04. I tried to "candle" them today, but wasn’t able to see veins or anything. Partly maybe because they still had some dirt on them from her lay box. They are incubating at 83-84 degrees F with moisture around 80-90%, sometimes it dips, so I spray them. When should I be able to see veins? What do they look like? I think they are fertile (they are from my bosses’s dragons), and her last clutch was fertile, however she wasn’t expecting eggs, and they did not make it. I know they were fertile because I opened one, and did see an embryo. What do you guys think about this second clutch? Oh, and the eggs are expanding a bit. Is this normal for fertile eggs? Thanks.

Question about eggs
The eggs will double in size as the dragon’s develope.Make sure if you add water to the container holding your eggs ,that you dont get any water directly on the eggs.I use a dropper to wet the area around they eggs.I rarely have to add water unless the eggs seem to want to cave in a little.Kirt

Question about eggs Pretty small clutch. If they haven’t collapsed by now they’re probably fertile, sometimes it takes a week or 2 to see veins. Did you turn off all lights in the room and then shine the light through them towards you? Should be able to see something by now. Quit spraying them, eggs need to breath, if you must add water add it to the vermiculite itself but not the eggs. As long as you keep a cup of water in the incubator with them you probably won’t have to add water the entire time, if they start denting that’s when you do it. Expansion is completely normal, some will just about double in size. Good luck.Sean

Question about eggs Yeah, the clutch is pretty small. I think most of them were wrecked because her dragon laid them while she was gone for the weekend, and she said some of them got kind of tossed around. She brought the entire lay box into work, which is where my incubator is, and that is where we are incubating them. The ones that looked really bad we froze and got rid of, kept the best looking ones. I have been misting them almost daily because the perlite seemed to be drying out pretty quickly. I do have a cup in there with water in it though. Is humidity at 70-80 degrees OK? Because if I don’t mist, that is what it falls to. I will bring an eyedropper in tomorrow, so that I can just put the water right on the perlite. A few times when I have misted, the water did get directly on the eggs, but I wiped it off. Should this be OK? Sorry so many questions, but these are my bosses’ beardie eggs, and she has more or less put me in charge of them, in fact she really doesn’t do anything with them at all. Jeez, I hope she doesn’t get P.O’d at me if they don’t hatch, because I have never done this before!!Thanks guys!

Question about eggs Oh, also, how damp should the perlite feel? I have heard that it should clump, and if you roll it in a ball should just about stick together, but not be dripping wet. When I first put the perlite in, I dampened it that way, I can’t quite remember, I printed it out, I want to say 3 parts perlite to 1 part water by weight? I could be remembering this wrong, but the perlite seemed the perfect consistency then. Now it feels really dry.

Question about eggs Perlite has a tendency to feel dry at all times. It sounds like everything is fine but like everyone else said, i wouldnt spray them amy more. Perlite is able to retain water better than vermiculite, so water is not as likely to touch the eggs directly. 70% humidity is fine. I like using vermiculite b/c it has the effects like u said above. its all really preference. Rob

Question about eggs Thank you very much for all your help guys. I won’t spray anymore, just keep a cup of water in there, and keep the humidity at around 70%. Hopefully we will be having some babies around the end of September, early October. All’s I can say is if I have to do all this work, I better get one of those babies!!! Thanks again.
