 Babies won’t eat crickets!

why wont my babies eat small crickets? they hatched 5 days ago and show no sign of wanting to eat the crickets. they are small crickets not too small but not bigger than the space between their eyes. the only sign they DO show is running away when a cricket comes close to one of them. WHAT should i do??

Normal... Give it time they’ll come around. Are they eating salad yet?

Not all that uncommon for babies not to eat anything for the first week or so, they live off of the sack they absorb at hatching. Assuming that all husbandry conditions are met and that’s not the cause, sometimes they need a little kick in the butt to get going. Take some repcal pellet and run it through a coffee grinder and then mix that powder with a pedialite to make a soup. Feed that by syrenge (no needle), try putting a drop on the end of their nose and see if they lick it off, the first time you may have to pry a drop in between their lips (side works best, use your fingernail) so they get a taste and then they’ll lap it up.

We have found that even our fussy babies will eat them if you remove the back legs from the crickets. They don’t seem to like them jumping around.(plus Laura loves yanking the legs off those stinky little suckers...LOL) If that doesn’t work, try some baby silkworms.
