PLEASE HELP how long can it be? LaQuisha just digs and digs and it’s been 10 days outside of what I predicted on the calendar for her eggs. What to do?

PLEASE HELP how long can it be? yes, she has a lay box and i’ve tried all kinds of ways to make her comfortable, but she can’t stay away from her mate long enough to even stay in her box. it’s a tupperware shoe box (a little bigger) half full of vermiculite and it’s moist enough to stick together. it’s got one part sand in it and she won’t even get it unless i put her there. she laid one lone egg last week and now i’m getting very worried. she’s still digging.

PLEASE HELP how long can it be? Get the male away from her. Put her in the lay box, and cover it. What I like to do is turn a big rubbermaid into a lay box with dirt piled on one end about 10" deep and then just put the girl in it. If she laid an egg last week she REALLY need to lay NOW. If she doesn’t respond soon, take her to a vet, she may be eggbound and it will kill her if not taken care of. Sean

SHE FINALLY LAID Thanks everyone, LaQuisha laid 25 nice big eggs, hopefully, all are healthy. There are two that are rather small and sort of hard, almost like one side has hardened and they are smaller than all the others, but 25 in all. She’s doing fine, ate a big meal this morning and looks rather happy. I have a couple questions, I have to send back the incubator and get another - what can I do to survive these eggs in the meantime ??? Right now, I have them in moist soil with a regular light above and the temp is 82-84. the soil is moist and i have a little cup of water buried in the soil as well. will these eggs survive until i can get another incubator? and is it okay to partially cover the top. i have the eggs in a plastic bin.

SHE FINALLY LAID Yes you can cover the top, i’d drill some holes in it though for air circulation. As long as you can maintain proper temp and humidity (going to be difficult without an incubator but i’ve seen it done) they’ll be fine. You could try the fish tank incubator trick until you get your good one back. If you don’t know what it is, google it, there are plenty of places that explain it. Sean
