 "Pale" Bearded Baby

I have a clutch of eggs that has almost finished hatching, and one of the babies is very pale - almost white after basking - and unlike any of the other babies. The mum is homozygous "golden", the dad is phenotypically "normal", and presumably homozygous for it - neither had any mention of their parents being strange morphs, or possible hets. I was wondering if anyone had any idea as to the name of the morph, how much colour/patterning is retained as an adult, and any general ideas as to where the genes came from (other than "the milkman"...) Pictures below:

Thanks,

Andy

Cool, it’s a keeper but not a morph, at least not one you can put a name on. Hets only work with recessive traits and there are very few when it comes to beardies, basically you can probably throw that idea out the window. You got phenotypes right but you have no idea on exact genotypes, at best you know what a couple generations? not really enough to say that there can’t be some throwback somewhere. Could also be a random mutation.

You said there are relatively few recessive traits...does that mean a lot are co-dominant or multi-geneic interactions? And you are absolutely right, i don’t know genotype back beyond its grandparents, so could well be a throwback - i hadn’t even thought of that to be honest! It was quite a surprise to wake up a couple of days ago, check the incubator and find 3 dark normals sitting in there, along with that one! It’s just started eating greens, and drinks well, either from misting or from a shallow bowl. I’m hoping it’s going to keep like it is, or possibly have the pale brown patterns fade away a bit more, to make it even more dramatic!

Almost all beardie morphs are codom and line bred to keep them. The only recessive traits are marketed ’leucistic’, albino, clear nails, and translucent (I’m pretty sure that’s all of them but it is the end of the day at the end of the week and i’m trying to remember if i’m missing one).

Just a quick update...i had a check in the incubator last night, and the final egg i was waiting on had started hatching...and was pale coloured!

It hatched out during the night, and i got a photo of it, the other pale one, and a normal one for comparison:

They make a very cute little pair, but i guess the fact that there’s two of them rules out a chance gametic mutation - apparently it would have to be a germ line mutation of one of their parents if it was mutation-derived. So i’m now even more puzzled, but inclined to believe some sort of ancestral throwback?

Raini- I agree with you. Its fascinating- would like for Andy to keep us posted with pics of the light ones at intervals so we can see what happens... compared to the so called normal colored ones. Take care Raini & Andy, Beth

I’ll do my best guys...and i have another 70 or so eggs incubating from the same parents, so it will be interesting to see if any of those are white - bring on 3 or so weeks time!!
