Breeding??

Hi, Im a new member here and I have two Beardies. My oldest one is 4 years old and is a female, I recently bought a babie a couple months ago he is a bought 6 months. I heard that the male can reach sexual maturity at 6-7 months, is this true?? but he is still is smaller than my female. My male(Yoshi) has waved at my female alot lately and also bobs his head occasionally. Are they ready to mate?? they like each other alot, lots of licking!! thanks, Samantha |

Breeding??
| Well, there’s a big difference between puberty and being ready to be a good breeder. Males can hit puberty as early as 4 months old, but sperm counts and quality are best after they are a year old and have good body fat reserves. It’s best to wait until dad is older so as not to get a high number of infertile eggs or lizards with birth defects. It’s also possible for the female to attack or even try to eat him if there’s enough size difference and she is not receptive to mating. She must be sending out some threatening signals, waving males are acting submissive and not signalling a readiness to breed. |
