Dampening vermiculite without getting eggs wet?

Hi i was just wondering if anyone knows the easiest way to dampen the vermiculite that my eggs are incubating in without getting the eggs wet?

Just use a little hand-held sprayer and hold it close to the perlite/vermiculite and don’t spray the eggs directly. You should have an inch between eggs or so.

You really should have the eggs in a container with a loose fitting lid to incubate in a hova-bator or similar incubator. Contrary to most of what i have read, misting the eggs themselves has not shown in the now 1000’s of eggs we have hatched over the year to hurt them in any way. it may temporarily block the gas exchange through the shell, but the eggs surface doesn’t stay wet very long after a gentle misting, and the eggs do absorb some of the water. we have used stronger closer sprays (not streams) to wash off loose vermiculite from the eggs, again with not a problem. We feel the cocern with over doing the water on the eggs would be if the pearlite or vermiculite was over saturated and the eggs were sprayed heavily, i could drowned the eggs. Hope this helps. blazed if you want some more info ypu can email me at . I would be glad to share any information we have aquired over the years. -Jay
