 Male and female fighting?

my new male was put in with a female and showed signs of breeding by head bobbing andchasing the female but when the male gets ontop the female retaliates can this happen in breeding or could it be two males

you have to watch them whatever you do. He could be trying to breed or trying to dominate her. One of our girls refused to breed and decided to bite the males leg. Just always keep an eye on them. -Jay
